need advice on shocking sensations
Question:
Hi Brenda, I missed your original post on this. IMO, it sounds like your eustachian tubes (ear tubes) just clearing themselves. I know that some ADs can act as antihistamines-perhaps yours is helping to decongest you? I would go to the doctor and tell him/her what you are experiencing and have your ears checked. I believe that the popping in a good thing and shows that the tubes are properly draining fluid off your ears. Just a thought-I’m no expert. Charley – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – hey everyone I hope you all are doing good. Im back to work and feeling much better but Ive got this funky symptom that Im dwelling on. Ive seen glimpses of posts on this but not sure what it is. The glands or something behind both my ears bother my. sometimes more than others. its like a shock. doesnt hurt but is nerve racking cuz i dont know what it is. i feel lots of pressure and it comes and goes but has been around for several months. its like when you eat something sour a you get that tinge in your gland or when you tighten the muscle in your jaw or neck and your ears kinda pop and you get that tinge. its hard to explain but if anyone thinks they know tell me so. May Zoloft is working fine. Its been 9months. I dont have to take the X much anymore and i have even flown by myself. again I hope you all are doing good. bless you all brenda Brenda,

Brenda, not sure if it’s the same thing your experiencing but just before Xmas i started getting this weird kind of pressure feeling, it’s quite hard to describe it exactly, kind of like something shutting on and off in there, mainly behind my left ear, not all the time but it certainly sent my anxiety level up a notch or ten, i’d been doing fairly well the previous few months so it was certainly a bit of a setback for me. I thought maybe it was something to do with sinuses as my left nostril always seems to be blocked on a semi permanent basis even when there’s no snot or bogies up there (sorry, Probably too much information). It seems to have eased off now but it’s another symptom to add to my long list of worries. Best wishes, Ken.

Hi Brenda, It sounds like the tempero-mandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome. It is also referred to as the myofascial pain syndrome of the jaw joint(s). If you grind your teeth at night, you can wake up in the AM with "popping" or "cracking" or "clicking" in your jaw joints when you open and close your mouth. The pain in the TMJs is referred to the angle(s) of the jaw, so it may feel like it is behind and below your ear(s). One or both joints may be affected. Also there will be tenderness if you press on the TMJs, or put your pinky finger (i.e. 5th digit) into your external ear canal and open and close your mouth. It occurs more often in women than men, and frequency peaks in the early 20s and perimenopause. Treatment is Tylenol or NSAIDS and hot or cold packs (whichever works best). A mouth guard can be prepared by your dentist to prevent nocturnal bruxism (teeth grinding). A benzo at bedtime (Xanax is fine) may be helpful. Also avoid foods which require alot of chewing.
