I am back

Question:

I have a Respironics BiPAP S which is basically an older machine.  The main drawback is it’s size and weight make travel more difficult as I carry it on.  There are newer bi-level machines that are more compact. You can use the same mask as with your CPAP if you like it.  I started at 18/9 years ago, went up to 20/14 last year and am down to 20/10 now. If you need BiPAP at 16/8 your CPAP pressure would probably have to be higher than the 10 you currently have.  This would explain the snoring and daytime sleepiness you’re having. THANKS AL THAT HELPS A LOT.  I want to be able to talk intelligently to the dr when he calls.  and i don’t want him to try to just change head gear or add a chin strap when I know it is more serious than that,  I want to feel better during the day.  I am tired of being  tired. vicki

Hi, My name is Vicki, I haven’t lurked or posted for some time.  (No real reason, just got on another list about weight loss and that has taken an enormous amount of time to get through the mail each day) But more to the point.  I have been trying to catch up on some of the posts. And let me say you guys are the BEST, you give such good supportive information.  I was impressed with all of you a few months ago and I am still impressed. I had a sleep study last week, due to excessive daytime sleepiness and my family saying I am still snoring with my CPAP at night to a small degree. Well I guess I DO, the tech kept waking me up to adjust my mask, add a chin strap, ect.  And after a few hours I was woke up to this intense pressure in my nose and then a letting up. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, had I never read and recieved info from this group previously I would have FREAKED OUT.  But I new instantly they had switched me to a BiPap.  Although it was strange and I felt a little paniky, I was able to calm down and let the machine and my breathing work together, and I went back to sleep, the tech said I did better on the BiPap.  I think it would take some getting used to.  But if it would help I would sure be willing to go to one. The doctor has yet to call with his recommendations.  But I just wanted to thank all of you for your info a few months ago, because of you I was very prepared for the sleep study and what would be happening.  ANd when the doctor calls I will be more knowledgeable in his suggestions and hopefully be able to provide suggestions of my own. ANy advice on what type of BIPAP mask ect…would be greatly apprecated. Also what are some of your settings?  During the test she  had it at 16 and 8. (MY CPAP is at 10 now) One more thing, I do have the dreaded Resp. GoLd Seal with the swivel thingy, and I specifically ask the tech about CO2 and she said that it did not go up and that she didn’t think I was rebreathing.  I am not truly convinced but at least I made a point in asking.  I am hoping with a new machine (if that is what the dr orders) i will also selcet a new mask.  like I said any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. vicki in indy
