provigil again?

They shipped a big case–maybe 100 bottles–at the beginning of the study. We had to ship back what we didn’t use. Talk about attentional problems–try counting pills in a noisy office knowing that if I’m off from what the count should be, I have to explain it to the FDA…. mark — What we believe about ourselves can hold us hostage. Over the years I have learned to respect the power of people’s beliefs. The thing that amazes me is that a belief is more than just an idea–it seems to shift the way we experience ourselves and our lives. According to Talmudic teaching, "We do not see things as they are. Nessa said: "it was proscribed for me for hyposomnelence (sp) but I find that I can reduce my desoxyn and get good effects. so far so good" That’s what I’ve heard about it. I’ll be interested to hear the research results.
Response:
Err, now I don’t know what provigil is, and I don’t know what hyposomnelence is either? A little clue? A hint? Sounds like…insomnia? If "som" is sleep related, then hypersom would be "hyper sleep", and hypo is the opposite of hyper, then you can’t sleep? What’s the difference between hyposomnelence and insomnia? Partly, I’m curious, but partly, you’ll note that I’m writing this at 3:00 am in the morning
I would like to be sleeping, but I’ve had problems sleeping all my life. Anyway, I’m interested in learning a little more about this
Ya’ll be cool
Take care, and be well Robo

Hi Robo, It’s always neat to get a new regular with a new POV. (point of view) Provigil is a new drug. It’s a non-addictive non-amphetimine stimmulant prescribed primarily for narcolepsy. In fact, at this time AFAIK it is the only thing it can be prescribed for. HYPOsomnelence is problems staying awake. HYPER means too much . To me it should be HYPERsomnelence too much sleep but it’s not. go figure. probably some government idea. (sorta like the new DSM coding ADHD-primarily inattentive). actually, once a drug is approved (in the US anyway), physicians are free to write "off label" scripts. It’s been approved for narcolepsy but gets perscribed for lots of things. The further those things get from the approved indication, the more red flags it’s going to raise. There’s currently a phase III trial going on to get approval for treating excessive daytime sleepiness among people with obstructive sleep apnea. The results of the phase before this indicated high efficacy. Why bother with the time and expense of drug trials if physicians can off label? Having an approved indication is going to increase the odds of the med actually being prescribed–they end up making more money than the research costs. HYPOsomnelence is problems staying awake.
I always thought somnelence meant sleep with hypo meaning too little sleep and hyper meaning too much but my brain could be slipping a cog. HYPER means too much . To me it should be HYPERsomnelence too much sleep but it’s not. go figure. probably some government idea. (sorta like the new DSM coding ADHD-primarily inattentive).
I’m shipping back the leftover provigil as I speak–5,000 100mg tablets. I wish I could keep some! mark —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–
