I know exactly how you feel, and I wouldn’t have ever considered I had sleep apnea myself either, especially considering I’m not a loud snorer and dont’ always snore, but because of excessive fatuige I was trying to find an explaination for I told my local doctor that I DO snore and also that I often wake up with sore throat, headaches etc, and he gave me a referal to a sleep doc………had a sleep study done and guess what, I have sleep apnea, moderate case. So…..PLEASE, dont’ assume you don’t have sleep apnea, truth is you might, and not only that, but a sleep study will show any other sleep disorders you may have such as periodic limb movement disorder (restless leg sydnrome) etc……

Yep, its a funny thing, that. It is my personal opinion that anyone who has trouble sleeping should go for a sleep study, you never know what you may find. Sleep is one of those things we all take for granted. Sleep apnea strikes without notice and could go years undetected. I had it for over 10 years before going for the study, and that was after I mentioned to my doctor the classic symptoms.. (acid reflux, never getting enough sleep even if I slept 20+ hours, loss of memory, nodding off while driving, loud loud snoring) — the third time I mentioned it he finally sent me to the study. It was more or less of a last resort but I don’t think it should have been that way. I have a hypopnea rating of 105. Not the worst I’ve seen, but certainly in the ‘very bad’ area of things.

This sounds a lot like me, about a year and a half ago, and I DO have sleep apnea. You may not realize you have it. You do not remember the very brief awakenings. If you wake frequently for no apparent reason, I would suggest you ask your primary doctor for a referral to a certified sleep specialist who will take a detailed history and ask you a lot of questions about different things to try to pinpoint which disorder you have and schedule a sleep study (polysomnogram) to decide on the best course of action, whether that is CPAP, or drug therapy or something else. Check out the different sleep disorders at: <http://www.btinternet.com/~kemp.paul/mongo.html> which should help you recognize other symptoms you may be having.
