Adderall Dosage
Question:
Been on Adderall a week now. (1st time medicated since diagnosis in 95) I was taking 10 mg 1x a day in afternoon when woke up (stress insomnia) Then did 20 mg yesterday and Today 5 mg at 9am and 5mg at 3pm Today I have felt the lest squirrelly or the least like CharlieG35’s Automatic and Manual transmission analogy. Will update you later this week if you want me to. Question: How are you being monitored? Do you fill out a checklist or just say I feel like I did better today or not?

Hi, I use Adderal 30mg on waking. 20mg 4-6 hrs later then 10mg before 6:00pm, often forgetting this dose or just passing it up if I waken later. Also use Welbutrin 150mg, 150 mg, and 75mg. And Trazodon 50-100mg just before going to sleep. This regimen put my brain into "working order" after several years of lassitude. I was very frustrated with my poor performance. Now, as long as I remember that my standards, not societies, are honest and true, I’m very productive. Not as evaluated by my father-in-law, rather as by my 6 yo son, who am home educating, and my 14 yo daughter. These medications allow clear thinking engendering self observation and adaptation with conscious awareness of conflicting motives. This allows me to CHOOSE who I am and how to be. I have never known anyone that has taken Adderall and it worked for them…. you might want to consider changing meds. Just a thought. Sorry if it is misinformation that wasn’t my intention. lu my 13 yr old takes 30 mg in the a.m. and another 30 mg at lunch and last year sometimes a half of the 30 mg after school. I posted elsewhere that he (my son) says he can’t tell a difference with this adderall but when we origianlly upped the dosage it did help his behavior but I don’t know now if that was the change of the anti-depressant or not…. amoplady

Hi, I also take 50mgs. daily. 20 in the morning, 4 or5 hours later another 20 and 4 or 5 hours later 10. My doctor was reluctant to give me over 40mgs. a day when I told him I felt like I should take 60 daily. I had tried it on my own for several days and it was perfect. Speaking only for myself I take 50 mgs daily-as well as an AD, as I also have a chronic depression problem, but anyhow..I take 15 mgs (1/2 a 30 mg tab) first thing in the a.m…another 15 mg about 4 hours later and then 20 mgs more in the later afternoon..sometimes split into 10 mg doses if my day (well night-day..I am night shift..hrmm) is going to be a long one. It works very well for me, much much better than the original one dosage I started on months ago. Good Luck to you. =) May

Hi Jack: My pdoc recently told me that 40 mg is max. I take 20mg in the morning and 20 mgs early afternoon.

Jack, Each persons dosage varies. I take 20mg in morning and another 20mg around 1:00 or 2:00 pm. I also have Doc.’s approval for another 20mg in the evening if I have a meeting or project to complete. This later dose doesn’t affect my sleep. I have noticed that I get a little "squirrelly" too from about 8:00 pm. I hadn’t put it in those terms, but it does seem to fit the way I act. This probably isn’t a very scientific explaination, but this is how I kind-of-feel. My ADD brain is like a manual transmission. It takes a little more effort and focus to drive then a automatic, but the performance is alot better. When I am on med.’s, my brain has an automatic transmission. When the med’s wear off, my brain is coasting in nuetral until it shifts back to manual. If I’m home watching TV, no problem. But if I’m trying to focus, I feel like my brain is coasting down a steep curvy hill trying to find the manual transmission. Ever since I came up with this analogy I have learned to avoid conversations until the standard transmission kicks back in. It seems to me that you should split up the dosage to twice a day. If you are handling 30mg at one time, you may be able to take 20 2x’s a day, or even 30 mg 2x’s a day. Good luck. Charlie p.s.
