age at onset
Question:
Yes, Dorothy (and everyone else out there) 40 anything is a "normal" perimenopause era. Peri means around the time of menopause ,,, kinda like "gearing up" or winding down, depending on your point of view. You may want to check out Dr Susan Sarko (or Sako, gosh, my hormones must not be working THAT well), it is called "Testosterone, the hormone of desire:. It makes for quite eye opening reading. She is a doctor, who at 40 something went through several of the symptoms you described. Gosh, you must feel exhaused all the time. Getting "flashed" in the middle of night, or simply being restless is the pit! With kids, it must be ….! Bless you, Susan
Response:
I have been having escalating symptoms of perimenopause for the past year, i.e. hot flashes, mood swings, erratic periods (one month I’ll flow like a stuck pig and the next I’ll have practically nothing), painful sex and vaginal dryness. I have type II dibetes and initially thought at least SOME of these symptoms were related to that. I couldn’t believe I was in perimenopause. I’m only 43 and just had a baby 3 years ago. Is there any possibility that having a baby this late HASTENED it? I don’t know at what age menopause naturally occurs in my family. All three of my sisters and my mother had hysterectomies before the age of forty (some for what I consider suspicious reasons). Is perimenopause this early natural? Should I seek HRT? Oh, and add insomnia to the list (not fun with a preschooler). Donna — "It has become appallingly clear that our technology has surpassed our humanity" Albert Einstein
