Anyone Else Having Trouble With Generic Klonopin?????????

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve taken several different brands of generic Xanax: Novo, Flinstone, err…. Greenstone :) et al, as well as the brand name product.  I’ve never been able to tell the difference.  However, when I was taking 3.5mgs/day, it was *all* generics.  I didn’t get my first taste of the Upjohn flavor until I was taking it only as needed for extreme anxiety/insomnia.  Thus, I can’t really report how the generics differ from the brand name for people taking a maintenence dosage. *Now*, I’ve been taking Klonopin for 3 years or so.  I’m going to ask for a generic substitute and try to form some conclusions of my own.  I think a 2-3 week trial should be enough to gain some information.  This has to be factored in with the time of the year; end of semester and holiday pressures. Nevertheless, I will report my experiences here later in the month — together with any other information I can dig up. Another generic holiday season; ho, ho, ho…. :) –Tony (ASAP Voluntary Guniea Pig :)

Hi Tony, I’ve been on the generic Klonopin for two months now (Lemmon Pharmaceuticals), and I can’t tell any difference.  All I know is that when I go too long without a dose (either because of work or forgetfulness), I can definitely feel my OCD, as well as PD, symptoms come on. Andre

Bill, The weird thing is I had trouble with Ativan and not brand name Klonopin! Isn’t it strange the way we all have the same problem, but entirely different wiring?? : I took my usual Klonopin Rx in generic form this past time at the : pharmacy.  I didn’t think about it at all until I realized that all my : symptoms were getting worse. I mentioned this quite a long time ago, but is worth repeating… I have noticed a big difference between certain generics and brand names.. especially in Valium. I mentioned it to *many* pharmacists over the years and found that a majority of them had heard very similar things from other clients.   One Pharm did some research on it because he had heard from so many people and was puzzled because the chemical composition is the same… with in some cases he suggested, a difference in non-active "fillers".   In the 1980’s I was taking 5mg of Valium as needed for panic-anxiety. I had the Yolo Causeway to go over. It is between Woodland where we owned a house and Sacramento…It is 3-4 miles long and there is NO PLACE to pull off. Whenever I would cross it I would get terribly dizzy and feel as though I was going to faint…If I took a Valium (brand name with V in the center), I noticed it would lessen the intensity of the attack. If I took a generic, the attack appeared to be the same or worse.

I’ve heard people tell the pharmacist that a generic so and so does not work for them and the pharmacist insisted it was all in their minds. There is *not* the same quality control for generics so that one pill may have more medicine than the next with generic.  I am on generic klonopin because my insurance forces me to use generic when available.  I haven’t noticed a difference but this is the first time! Weird how our bodies are so alike and also so different. Generic ibuprofen doesn’t touch me but Advil does etc.  Tell your dr. you know there is a difference and if he tries to make you feel dumb, tell him you  know there have been studies that showed generics didn’t always contain the same amount of medicine. Good luck, Kate

** Carol, I’ve never taken Klonopin, but I’ve been taking Xanax for years. I’ve read, and heard from doctors, that the effectiveness of generic Xanax was not as effective as the real deal. I don’t know why, as many of the labs that produce the generics are owned by the parent companies who produced the med in the first place. I’ve never taken generics myself, other than OTC meds. The same may or may not be true for Klonopin. I just know that my doc is not in favor of generics, and has had many patients complain about them. Be it the generic, or the fact that the patient "knows" that it’s generic, can be a factor as well, so the jury is out, unless true "blind studies" are done for each med. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it……EJK — Used wisely, your 2
