I used traditonal Chinese acupuncture for pain relief in migraines on a daily basis, so bad, I was bedridden most of the time. It is the *only* thing that worked. No drugs I tried did. Helped get me out of a suicidal frame of mind. I have a friend who has had the bones of her spine (neck collapse) and she swears acupuncture saved her from suicide. Another friend used it for pain relief in a serious knee injury. Now she’s a convert. My husband used the same acupuncturist as I for his migraines – worked for him too. As for keeping needles in for 20 minutes – this is not always the case. Sometimes needles are inserted deeply and removed at once. Sometimes they are used in conjunction with moxabustion – that is small cones of herbs are placed on the acupuncture site. These are lit and extinguished as soon as *warmth* is felt (not burning) – this can be followed by insertion and removal of a needle. Over here in the UK – the governing body is the British Acupuncture Couoncil. Worth contacting them for a list of members in your area, if you are UK resident. Kind regards, Helen S

Hi Tim (again): I have been using acupuncture for a little over a year for a shoulder injury, mild depression relating to that and to my Father’s poor health, and menopause symptoms, but unfortunately it does not seem to have helped my insomnia. It has, however, given me a general sense of well-being, partially due to the fact that it is relaxing (most of the time the needles do not hurt, and you need to lie still for about 20 minutes with them in, so that in itself is relaxing). While it does not work for everyone, I definitely think it’s worth a try. Best wishes, RuthJ
