Anyone try Kava?

Question:

Hiya JaneG, I tried kava kava last year – just a few times – to help me cope with anxiety at work. It made me feel a bit more alert, a little flushed, gave me scary red eyes and made me feel a little more at ease around others at the time. I should’ve been on AD’s at the time, but wasn’t (am now though). I guess my impressions were that valerian was better as a herbal type relaxant for me, though it has more of a sedative effect (great for insomnia I found). These days though, the serzone takes care of insomnia just fine. Hope this helps a little anyway, Mark – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Has anyone tried the herb Kava. It is supposed to be good for anxiety and as a muscle relaxer? What effects did you experience? Were you on any AD’s or anti-anxiety meds at the time? JaneG

Dear Jane people, we must tell you most tellingly about the time that Lenny took the herbs. He was living in Fort Horrid California in Monterey being a young soldier of 19 old because that’s how drafted people were in 1973. So he drove to the mall in Salinas and there was a fancy new health food shop people there who told Lenny that he could take Damiana, and Fo-Ti and a bunch of other herbs and Gota Koa and everything, so he did. Then he walked around the mall and looked into all the windows and suddenly, amazingly, he turned bright red. He took deep breaths and tried to relax, but it was no use. He was so hot that he thought that he was going to catch fire like one of those people in the National Enquirer who immediately combust into ashes. So he bought himself a bottle of Evian water from the drugstore and was going to sit down to drink it so that he could not be red anymore, but in those days the bottles were glass with no sipper lids for people. And the Lenny was shaking and shaking from the herbs and trying to open the bottle with the little tiny can opener that soldiers keep on their keychains. And when the top popped off, the metal cap from the bottle flew across the mall and made a loud tinkling noise and everybody looked over at the bright red Lenny just in time to see him splash the entire bottle of water all over himself. And that made him even Redder! He ran out of the mall and drove back to Fort Horrid soaking wet and red. He was so red that people who saw him at the stop signs were pointing at him. When he got back to his room, his roommate looked at him and said, "What happened to you? You are as red as a firetruck." Poor Lenny. He has never eaten any more herbs again. Birds
