ativan addiction?

Question:

:I do think that at a dose of no :more than 3mg a day for only 2 weeks, with breaks in between, should :not cause physical withdrawal symptoms.  I am just curious if I might :be wrong.  I am afraid to ask my doctor because I dont want him to :think of me as an addict, so I would appreciate some advice.  I have a :tendancy to be a hypochondriac, so some informative relief would be :great. thanks. Dear Lazarus, Welcome to ASAP! It sounds like you are taking ativan on a "as needed" basis and being you don`t take it for more than two days in a row, I doubt you would suffer any withdrawal symptoms. If you were taking the same dose, daily, for a few weeks straight, that would cause physical dependency and possibly withdrawals. Here is an informative link on addiction vs dependency: http://panicdisorder.about.com/library/weekly/aa031997.htm Take care :) Jackie ~*~Man has never made any material as resilient as the human spirit~*~

Hello all.  I know this has probably been asked before, but I couldnt find a thread.  Basically I was prescribed ativan for insomnia and panic on November 4, 2002.  I basically have only needed to use .5 or 1 mg during the day for severe panic on a few occasions, never more than 2 days in a row.  The same routine for insomnia, just a higher dose.  I first tried .5 mg, then 1mg, finalyy I found I needed 2mg to help me get a decent nights sleep.  I have however not used it straight through the last 2 weeks, I have taken 3 days off, about 5 days apart or so each.  My question is that I was prescribed this by my general practitioner, and I am curious if addiction could be a problem.  I only used 1 mg yesterday for panic, and didnt use any for insomnia, taking my last dose at 7pm.  I do think that at a dose of no more than 3mg a day for only 2 weeks, with breaks in between, should not cause physical withdrawal symptoms.  I am just curious if I might be wrong.  I am afraid to ask my doctor because I dont want him to think of me as an addict, so I would appreciate some advice.  I have a tendancy to be a hypochondriac, so some informative relief would be great. thanks.
