– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Tony in La la la land I am noticing a few more side effects Woo-hoo Tony, well at least you are feeling better and can laugh a little. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed (wait . . do the toes cancel out the fingers?)  Anyway —  stay euphoric, but don’t get too excited – you know – the old blood pressure thing. Red (a little euphoric myself due to the T3 and Cafergot combo recently ingested)

I have high blood pressure and high blood sugar. The Doctors are fussing over me like I am going to fall over dead. I am testing both regularly. Prednisone is the only treatment for my eye disease: posterior Uveitis Tony in La la la land I am noticing a few more side effects

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Prednisone is one of the only things that really work for me! Unfortunately you can’t be on them for long. I have low blood pressure and low blood sugar – do you? My opthamologist put me on 50 mgs a day of prednisone for my Uveitis (swelling of the optic nerve). He told me to keep calm and not do any exercise and not get upset. I have to test my blood sugar and blood pressure often. I read up on prednisone and it doesn’t say anything about migraine. I was hoping it would help my migraines too. Tony in Mexico

Response:

Thanks Brie, so far after half a day I have noticed a real strong hunger especially for salt but that is probably because I cut it out of my diet.  I finally broke down and drank a V8 juice it was delicious. Also I am sweating like  an Advil executive at an ASHM meeting. <chuckle Tony in Beautiful Old Mexico (maybe I am a little euphoric)

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’m currently on 110 mg. of Prednisone because of a bad Lupus flair and it hasn’t made a dent in my migraine.  I’ve been on Prednisone continually for four years now and it doesn’t affect them at all.  I take the Prednisone all at once every morning and doesn’t affect my sleep or moods at all.  It also doesn’t give me an appetite either.  But what it does, is give me terrible sides effects – bone necrosis and that type of thing.  I do hope it helps *your* migraine, however. It may be different with you.  Good luck!! :) Loving Life!! Brie he already told me to take it in the morning  50 mgs after breakfast. Tony

Steroids have always done wonders for me to clear us some nasty long-lasting migraines.  As somebody else mentioned, though, it comes with a price. For me, it is not only the mood and appetite changes, but also nasty insomnia. Asl your doc if you can take the entire daily dose in the morning, that helps a little with the insomnia. Laura

Prednisone is a truly wonderful thing…and can do some extraordinary stuff…but do be careful of the other "nifty" side effects, Tony… My kids refer to me as being in my "Arnold" phase (ala Schwartznegger — sp?) when I take the things due to the hellacious mood swings…and I could eat the leg off of a table — or pretty much anything else "kind" enough to stand still long enough…even if I know darned well I’ve just eaten. And those are just the easy-to-deal with, non-dangerous things!  <rueful grin Take care!! …Diane

that’s good news, I was hoping that it would help Thanks for the info Tony – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My opthamologist put me on 50 mgs a day of prednisone for my Uveitis (swelling of the optic nerve). Corticosteroids (of which prednisone is one) are commonly used to break a cycle of migraines.  The side effects make them unsafe for long term use for migraine where there are safer alternatives, but if you are taking them long-term for something else, you may well find that they help your migraines too. (I have found them very effective, at least temporarily, in breaking a headache cycle.) Naomi
