This is an interesting point. Mine is somewhat noisy, too, but I find the *white noise* helpful for sleep sometimes. Kathie

I think I would find it more white noise than irritating if I moved it a bit further away from the bed, but in order to do that I’d have to (gasp!) CLEAN!!!!!! I have to change the filter tonight, so I may do some of that C-word stuff. You can buy white noise machines. Might be easier on your dryer! (Safer, too!) Jackie

Pat’s the one who does laundry every night. I have a HEPA filter so I can breathe better. A white noise machines wouldn’t help me breathe better.:) Karen * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

Heh. I wish (thinking of the Very Large Pile Of Bedding that awaits washing. Not every night. Just when I (a) have laundry that needs drying and (b) can’t sleep. I’m not especially insomniac at the moment (knock wood), now that the nightws are getting cooler. I heard geese honking their way southward last night, just before I dropped off … –Pat Kight kig…@peak.org

Don’t do anything drastic, there, Karen. You don’t really need to C***N … just shove enough stuff aside to clear sufficient space for the filter. The excess will find its own place on the floor … (-: –Pat Kight kig…@peak.org

I have a HEPA vacuum cleaner, and I can really tell the difference. We keep a vacuum on each floor, and it’s so thorough that we lug it up and down stories. Makes cleaning seem more fruitful. –Jane

I use a cheap motorized fan as a white noise machine. It also keeps the air moving, very nice for the congenitally overheated. Regards, Laura Blanchard lblanch…@aol.com http://members.aol.com/lblanch000/ http://members.tripod.com/menopause/ (Land o’Links –click the cormorant for Menopause & Beyond)

I, too, value my HEPA filter. I don’t have sinusitis, but I have bad allergies, and it helps. OTOH, even in sleep mode, it’s noisier than I would like. There are times it’s kept me awake. <<The insomnia was the first thing I missed as a sinus infection symptom. I was so busy worrying about depression as the reason for insomnia. However, at the time I was not sleeping I was also not breathing easily thru my nose. However, I’ve had allergies and sinus congestion since I began having perimenopausal symptoms so I thought that my recent nasal congestions was more of the same. >> Several points come to mind: 1 )Increased (whether new or just an exacerbation) asthma is a problem that accompanies perimenopause for some. 2)A lot of the OTC meds for sinusitis or breathing problems may have insomnia as a side effect. (Not to mention other side-effects.) 3) As a fellow sufferer of insomnia and sinusitis, an air-cleaner was one of the best investments I ever made. Kathie
