cold turkey

Question:

This weekend (Sunday morning) I had a bad cardiovascular event so my doctor decided I should quit the Nardil (it had stopped working for the last month or so, anyway).  Since then I’ve been experiencing tremors, slightly slightly elevated blood pressure, insomnia, anorexia, racing thoughts (sometimes i feel like i can’t stop talking), and general jitteriness.  i’ve also been having these headache-like pains on the left side of my head in a few places (forehead, sinus area, and the back of my head just where my neck ends and my hairline starts). Anybody went off meds cold turkey before, and if so what was your experience? -elizabeth

I did.  Last Thanksgiving.  I got what I call Nerve Shivers.  Sort of like little electric bolts shooting through me, ending in my fingers.  Made me very jittery.  Lasted about a month, slowly died away. Had to breathe deeply a lot.

At the end of the week, I had extreme anxiety after feeling better initially going offf the drug. No one knows how these drugs are going to affect you. Generally cold turkey is not recommended. I am weaning myself slowly off Clonazepam after taking it for 3 years. It will take several weeks if I am successful.  Lisa Overton Guelph, ON Canada
