Unfortunatly all of the medications used to treat OCD can cause some sleep problems. This is likely to be because they change serotonin mechanisms which are involved in many things in addition to anxiety such as sleep and sexual function. — Jim Claiborn Ph.D. ABPP If I survive this life without dying I’ll be supprised. I currently take Prozac for OCD.  It has helped tremendously, especially for  obsessions.  My only complaint, I still have irregular sleeping patterns.  I’ve tried melatonin to no avail.  Have any of you had sleeping problems with  OCD, and have you found any successful methods for establishing better  sleeping patterns? Regards, Jeremy

Actually sleeping problems are common in OCD even when not treated. Medications used to treat OCD all effect serotonin a brain chemical that is important in sleep among other things so many people on these meds have more sleeping problems on the medication. There are some solutions. They include changing the dose or actual medication, changing the time of day that you take the medication or adding an additional medication. There are also behavior changes that can improve sleep to some degree. — Jim Claiborn PhD ABDD If the rich could pay other people to die for them the poor could make a wonderful living.
