evening anxiety and sugar
Question:
I had ADHD as a kid and now have painc attacks as an adult I’m not sure if they are connceted but I have the same problems you are having when I was a kid they put me on CYLERT. If I were you I would discuss that drug with your doctor. When I was on it I did a lot better than being on anything else for ADHD
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Dan, I don’t have the knowledge or experience with ADD to deal with your medication issues, but there are a few posters here that do. Be patient and hopefully one of them will see your message. I (along with my dr.) are so confused about my symptoms and the resistance to meds. This *resistance of meds* issue might be confusion over what disorder/symptom you’re trying to treat. The only med that you mentioned which is used as one of the first-line options for treating anxiety is Paxil. And I’m not sure about using seroquel just as a sleep medication, but you need an expert for that. Have you considered seeing another psychiatrist for a consultation regarding your treatment options? The other very strange symptom I have is a huge craving for sweets at night. Some nights I cannot sleep until I eat a bowl of cereal or something. I’m guessing my serotonin is extremely low? I’m guessing I am "self-medicating" with sugar somehow? Try switching to a complex carbohydrate sweetner like honey, instead of the standard refined sugar products. Warm milk sweetened with honey is very helpful for insomnia. Maybe an unsweetened oatmeal cereal with milk and honey would suit you. BTW, I used to have sweet cravings sometimes until I started on anxiolytic medication. Figaro

When I was on it I did a lot better than being on anything else for ADHD ~~well thank god i’m here. if you were medicated for ADHD (which we all have now, since we sit our ass in front of a computer screen or tv a good hunk of our time and our brain is FORCED to focus as opposed to us focusing as the good lawd intended us to <soap box, i know) it was probly with Ritlin or Adderal… which is a stimulant, adderal being a pure amphetamine, which old-fashioned common sense’ll tell ya.. promotes panic… (logistics, man.. logistics) so then ya gotchur benzodiazopines for panic relief, yer zoloft, paxil, blah blah blah for long term anxietal relief….ya gotchur downers now to counter yer upper meds, a speed-ball, if ya will. so you have now fallen into the systematic pattern strategically designed by pharmaceutical companies and the "pshch" industry.. (they GOTCHA ! comin and goin) WELCOME TO CORPORATE AMERICA ! xoxoxoxox ~tanya

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I am in desperate need of some assistance and hope someone can make some suggestions. I have been diagnosed with ADD for which I take 36mgs of Concerta every morning. During the day I am able to focus more which is great. However I start to feel "underlying anxiety" mid afternoon which does not go away, it’s just there. I have been prescribed seroquel for sleep but it seems to do nothing for the anxiety I feel every evening. The seroquel will "knock me out" but every night I wake up approximately 45 minutes after falling asleep in a panic attack. I have tried numerous meds such as paxil, depacote, etc but nothing seems to alleviate the anxiety I feel. The other very strange symptom I have is a huge craving for sweets at night. Some nights I cannot sleep until I eat a bowl of cereal or something. I’m guessing my serotonin is extremely low? I’m guessing I am "self-medicating" with sugar somehow? I (along with my dr.) are so confused about my symptoms and the resistance to meds. Does this make sense to anyone? When I was drinking too much pop had much the same experience. Would wake up in the middle of the nite from nightmares. This only occured a few times until realized sugar was the problem. Erv
I do drink about 3 or 4 diet cokes a day with the last one about 4:00 pm. With no sugar in these drinks is it still possible its screwing me up? Since my last post I took .5 mg klonipin and 100 mg seroquel which helped me to relax and fall alseep. However with an hour I was awake and in search of sugar. I gave in and ate some cereal and immediately fell back to sleep. I awoke again about another hour later craving sugar. This went on all night with me waking up every hour or so craving sugar. The first time I awoke the sugar craving was accompanied by a mild panic attack. The other times I awoke during the night craving sugar I did not experience any panic attacks. I assume this has to do with the fact I ate some cereal the first time I awoke? Sorry if this sounds confusing.

Could be compulsive/addictive type anxiety. Do you count things like objects or cracks in the sidewalk or trees inside your head while around them? Do you get nervous around large crowds of people like at the mall?
