Experience with Ambien sleep aid
Question:
I’ve been taking Ambien, a sleeping pill, for about the past 8 months to help me fall asleep. It’s used for short-term insomnia. I take one 10mg pill, and it really knocks me out in about 20 minutes. But I rarely feel like I’ve had a good night’s rest after taking it. Has anyone else ever taken Ambien? Anyone know the long-term side effects of taking Ambien?
Yes,I took it..for way too long.It can cause blackouts–I made phone calls and had no memory of doing it–my dr said this was a side effect.Didn’t like that,so i gave it up.Be careful.

I’ve used it on occasion. The sleep is ok but not great. I also noticed that it may possibly worsen depression (induce it?). Since it’s a relatively new drug, the long-term side effects won’t be known…I would try using something else for long-term sleeping problems (a benzo maybe?). Regards, .

The best sleep I ever had was when I hit myself over the head with a rock. I strongly recommend it. I’ve been taking Ambien, a sleeping pill, for about the past 8 months to help me fall asleep. I’ve taken Ambien. It did knock me out but I felt hung over the next day. I’ve switched to melatonin (with the permission of my doctor) which is over the counter in the vitamin/supplement area of the supermarket. it makes me sleepy in about 20 minutes. I took it for almost two months after starting CPAP. After getting used to the CPAP I stopped taking it every day and felt much better during the daytime — even though I was waking up more at night. I just quit without tapering off which was a mistake. The first night I stopped taking Ambien I had a lot of anxiety all night (hardly slept at all) and the next day. But the next night and day I had a VERY nice mellow feeling. My advice is (1) switch from Ambien to Sonata, which has a shorter lasting effect. (2) Don’t take either drug more than 1 or 2 nights in a row. (3) Taper off instead of quiting cold turkey. Taking it every day for 8 months is way too long in my personal opinion. At the very least go without it for 2 weeks (tapering off) and see if you feel better without it.
