Immovane/Zopiclone concerns
Question:
I’m sorry to hear you’re in such severe pain. Make sure none of the neighborhood junkies get wind of the fentanyl, it’s about 12 times as potent as heroin (which is still used as an analgesic outside the US, as in Britain). It sounds like you’re under good care; I wouldn’t be too concerned about the zopiclone. Hi Richard, Thanks for the link. I will take a look. I take a strong narcotic for mine, fentanyl. Sucks I can’t be med free. However, I have to do it to have decent quality of life or at least a manageable life. If a number of drs have signed off on it so to speak, and you can go weeks w/o it, it’s probably fine. My wife has chronic pain with flare-ups as well, and takes the mild narcotic pain med tramadol. She too can take it for awhile during bad periods, then go off it with no apparent ill effects. Have you tried something of this type? For study info on zopiclone you might try a Medline search: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi Richard – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Versilleus wrote: > The reason I am on it is due to chronic pain. Hi everyone, I was wondering what experiences people have had with this drug, good or bad. I have been on this for over 2 years nows and can’t seem to find many individuals who have taken it for this length of time. Without it I don’t sleep. Any sleep I do have lacks REM and is incredibly shallow. Anyone else experience this? Paul http://versilleus.blogspot.com

It is my understanding that this drug is not available in the U.S.

Zopiclone is a hypnotic chemically unrelated but similar in action to the benzodiazapines (Valium, Ativan, etc.). As such, it is indicated only for short term insomnia, 7 to 10 days. It is contraindicated in those with sleep apnea (see http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-i01.html ) Hard to say without knowing all the facts, but in general prescribing it for 2 years would be ill-advised. What dose are you taking? At this point, you would probably have to do a slow tapering off of the medication to avoid withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, possibly even seizures if you have been taking the drug at sufficiently high doses. Abrupt discontinuation would be a bad idea; you should talk to a physician about this situation. The reason I am on it is due to chronic pain. The dose I take is 0 to 29.5. The mean is usually 7.5-15mg. I can go weeks without. However it depends on the intensity of the pain. I have brought it up with my neuros, gp etc. They all say it is fine. But like you said it is a short term drug. I can’t find any record of people taking it for this length of time and the effects they experience from long term use. Are there any study(s) about long term usuage?
