Info on Felbamate ?

Question:

I can’t find my ‘bookmark’ to Ep.Foundation Meds. link at the moment. Dave Naess has at least *2* routes on his site. Under http://www.howdydave.com/resource/rx1.html ONCE you’ve CLICKED on that to GET THERE–> EITHER Click on Rx List, and it will give you a Blank where you can key in ‘felbamate’ and get One source of Information.   The Second Source, under the same ‘entry point’ (rx1 etc. above), you can Click on Medication Index–> about 300 ‘meds. names’ come up, Scroll down to ‘felbamate’ and Click on it? and you’ll get about 2 pages of ‘Doctor/ Pharmacist-oriented’ Details, with Product Warnings, Possible side effects, things to watch, etc.  I didn’t go down it in a lot of detail, just went to see that it was there.   IF you can find a Link to Ep. Foundation of America, EITHER under Dave’s site above or Julie’s IDAHO site, when you get to EFA they ALSO have a Seizure Medications Directory. Stuff there might be More patient oriented than the Pharmacist’s version above. Hello, My son has been on it for about a year.  It has helped alot.  You just have to get levels and bloodwork(LFTs/CBC) done every 2-4 weeks.  Its an old drug and it can have some serious side effects if not monitored.(liver failure/aplastic anemia) But it as really helped him, it is the only drug that hasn’t mad him groggy, and one of the few to actually stop his seizures for a decent amount of time.   The side effects he has had are insomnia when he first went on it, and when the levels get high, he refuses to eat.

Hi. Tests below are Similar to ones I had when First using Tegretol (Carbamazepine) in 1994, and would be set Med. Specific by the attending Physician. Other meds. also require monitoring.  I just wouldn’t want you to decide NOT to take a medication without reviewing it with your Doctor.   They know about possible side effects or documented findings.  Several people on the group were unable to use e.g. Tegretol. I’ve used it without incident since above date. My Dentist (for MY med.) changed my Recall rate from each 6 months to 4 months, because of Tegretol possible side effect on e.g. Calcium levels. I have experienced No such problems, even though Others here were unable to use Tegretol for their type of Szr.   Hope some of this helps you.
