Insomnia treatment?

Question:

Can someone please suggest a good treatment for insomnia. A friend of mine who had a lumpectomy because of DCIS stopped taking HRT (hormone replacement therapy) on advice of her doctor. Since then, however, she has been having many sleeplness nights. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Regards, E Sarte

Hops are a good sedative, and also a source of phytoestrogens.

Work upwards from 1 to 10 mg of melatonin, and from 500 to 2500 mg of GABA, both just before bedtime. Valerian Root capsules can be used to effect relaxation, and Kava Kava capsules can also be used to counteract the anxiety that sometimes comes with estrogen-related problems. I take both at bedtimes to help get the relaxation I need to get to sleep. Also Chamomile teas aid relaxation and are good before bedtime. Hope this helps.
