Question:
If you are searching for a "cure",
i’m actually searching for my q-tips, have you seen them? like I am, please read this message…
since you said please… First of all, NEVER GIVE UP!
OK! I WILL NOT! Fight depression, and never stop until you are free from this terrible illness.
no, i want to live with it forever. to ooze darkness and vote for trent lott. Suicide is not an option IF your goal is to get well, and live a normal life.
my goal is to be sick and purchase a harem of blow up dolls…you? This is my goal.
this is my net. This message is ONLY for people like myself who have tried several or numerous traditional antidepressants without adequate results, and are searching for something, anything, that will make the depression go away,
and if my results are adequate? i lose? will you help me stop climbing the walls? and will make them a whole person again.
damn, that’s why my knee keeps escaping my grasp! If you have only tried one or two traditional antidepressants,
especially at the same time. or you have tried to get well for less than a year, you should probably stick with trying whatever your doctor recommends trying.
gee, thanks. The right med for you may be the next one you try.
or it may turn you into a chicken. Also, if you are suicidal, or are severely depressed to the point of being non-functional, by all means, do not listen to me,
you need not ask permission for that. listen to your doctor!
dr. nick knows all. However, if you have tried several or numerous medications for an extended period as I have,
i can tell. and you are not getting well, and you are not suicidal, and you are semi-functional, and you are getting terribly frustrated with your illness, please keep reading…
you’re spam is so polite. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor!
i just play one on the internet. I am simply a fairly intelligent person with depression… probably just like you.
no, you ain’t like me. And I am searching for a "cure" myself, probably just like you are.
still haven’t found my q-tips huh? are you helping? Do not take my suggestions as gospel, but at least keep an open mind, please read the rest of this message, and give it some thought.
are you tring to hypnotize me? I have been reading these depression newsgroups for only a few days,
even the flames? and a recurring theme seems to be… "Please help me.
i can’t get a date. This or that medication is not working for me, and I have already tried several, so what should I try next?".
heroin, and lots of it? As a person with long term "Treatment Resistant Depression" myself, here is my advice, for whatever it is worth…
’bout a buck two eighty. Do not try antidepressants with no results for 10 years like I have,
ten years, no results. i thought you said you were fairly intelligent? and then keep on doing the same thing!
no, that’s my dating practices. It is time to do something different, don’t you think?
that’s why i’m purchasing the blow up dolls. This is the approach that I am taking for myself…
selling your computer? If you have tried several different traditional antidepressants, and/or combinations of traditional antideprssants, and/or medications that potentiate antidepressants (lithium, thyroid hormone, etc.), and/or various classes of antidepressants (tricyclic, SSRI, MAO inhibitors, etc.), and/or ECT, and none of these have done you much good, you may want to try what I am trying, or at least think about it.
you left something out. where the hell are my q-tips? I am looking to things which are not commonly used here in the US (yet), but are very common in Europe, Japan, etc.
non-americans? Specifically, I am speaking of herbal medications which are not FDA approved in the US and do not require a prescription.
like apricot pits, rhino horn and dog’s anatomy? (Please keep reading. Don’t blow me off just yet.) The reason they are not FDA approved is because they are natural substances which cannot be patented,
and they come from endangered species. and the big drug companies have absolutely no financial incentive to research any of these substances.
they can only make so much profit off the dead rhinos, then they’ll all be gone. No research, no FDA approval.
just poachers. No FDA approval, no prescription or even recommendation from most medical doctors.
just men with guns, shooting animals. The drug companies only want to research medications that can be patented, and have the potential to make them enormous profits!
along with the insurance companies. Before you blow this idea off (or let your doctor blow it off for you), at least give it some thought, and please do some additional reading as I have.
uh, oh, here comes the hard sell. After reading a very informative book, I am trying 5-HTP, which is supposed to boost serotonin levels in the brain. I have been taking it 10 days, and I have felt pretty darn good for the last 3 days, and this is after weeks and weeks of feeling like crap.
maybe it’s because you ate some food? went to the bathroom? took a shower? The book that I read says that one small foreign study of 99 patients that was done on 5-HTP did in fact demonstrate that 5-HTP helped about 50% of the people in the study,
that’s 44 and a half, your math is off. all of which had never responded to any other type of treatment (traditonal antidepressants used in the US, electroconvulsive therapy, etc.) Out of the 50% who did respond to 5-HTP, the vast majority of them were not only helped by 5-HTP, their depression was completely resolved, and these were people who had been depressed for an average of NINE YEARS. I am hoping that 5-HTP, or some other herbal substance, will be the answer to my prayers.
keep on your knees dude. The book explains that traditional antidepressants only attempt to optimize serotonin levels in the brain. They do nothing to increase serotonin levels in your body. If you don’t have sufficient serotonin in your body to start with, all the "optimizing" of the serotonin that you do have will not help. This may explain why traditional antidepressants simply do not work (or do not work very well) for a significant percentage of the people who have depression. It makes pretty good sense to me. That is why I am giving 5-HTP a try.
and getting a percentage of the profits? The people reading these depression newsgroups are probably NOT the ones who are doing great on their current medications.
you’re not reading these groups are you? we’re just here to flame each other and solicit for sex. The people reading these newsgroups are probably the people who are NOT doing great on their current medications, and are searching for something that will actually work for them.
no one here had found my q-tips either. If traditional antidepressants work for 70-80 percent of the people with depression who try them, that is great!
but not for you? But what if you are in the other 20-30 percent, like I am? Eventually, we have to consider other options.
like getting a life, for instance. We can’t just keep doing the same thing over and over and over and over. (Well, we can, but it won’t do us any good.)
so that’s my problem! I don’t know if 5-HTP (or any other herbal substance) will work for me,
but you feel great. but I will never know unless I try.
there is no try, only do, or do not. Traditional antidepressants did not work for me, and I spent TEN years trying them.
ten long years. It is time for me to try other things, and I am starting to do so now.
after ten years, i’d hope so. If you are interested in 5-HTP, or herbal medications in general, read the book "5-HTP The Natural Way to Overcome Depression, Obesity, and Insomnia" by Michael Murray, and make the decision for yourself as I have. 5-HTP can be purchased online at www.hypericumbuyersclub.com for a very reasonable price, but don’t just buy it and try taking 100-150 mg a day for a while, and then give up on it. Read the book, and you will see that some people need to start out at a much higher dosage,
and have to purchase more, and more and more!!! and then reduce it once they start feeling better. The book says that 5-HTP can work in a matter of a few days for some people, but can take up to 2 months to start working.
oh. I intend to give it a full 2 month trial at about 400-500 mg per day.
at least that’s what you’re being told to say. If you are not comfortable self-medicating yourself with herbal medications, or not comfortable determining what dosages you should to try based on a book that you read, then find a doctor (probably NOT a traditional M.D.),
he’ll dispute me, after all. who will help you try different options. Those doctors are out there, but they are probably hard to find. I have not found one, but then I haven’t looked for one.
for ten years. and where are my q-tips smarty pants? If you want to find such a doctor, maybe the author of that book can recommend someone in your area.
not in my area bub. The book says where the author, Michael Murray, works. I think it is some university on the west coast, if I remember correctly.
i though you were fairly intelligent. You could probably contact the author if you contact that university and are persistent enough.
stalk him, if necessary. I guess the whole point of this posting is… never give up, keep the faith that your "cure" is out there somewhere,
even if my q-tips are not. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – be open to new and different ideas in the treatment of depression,

haven’t used the ones that actually go through the head in quite some time thank you. ed
Response:
Well put, Ed. I think that entitles you to the answer: the Q-tips fell into the crack between the bathroom counter and the fall. There’s a pile of old, dusty Q-tips on the floor behind the base of the counter. How did this happen? There was a leak in the blow-up doll, which gently blew the Q-tips there. Stuck
