My Experience-Prempro
Question:
Two weeks ago I was having heavy bleeding while on Prempro and my internal medicine physician sent me to a gyn for a uterine lining scrape (all benign). The gyn told me he does not prescribe Prempro at this time unless it is in conjunction with another prescription for controlled bleeding. When I asked if I could throw it away, he said, don’t throw it away, put it on your plants, it’s good fertilizer!! I stopped taking it that day and have finally stopped bleeding and am feeling great. It was prescribed for me for the supposed heart benefits (my mother passed away at 51 with diabetes related heart disease), which according to this gyn, the heart benefits have not been proven and won’t be for 10-12 years of trials. Prempro was also supposed to help me with insomnia (it didn’t), tiredness (it didn’t) weight loss (it didn’t). I am 56 and through menopause so was really stupid to take this drug in the first place, but you tend to trust your physician.
My gyn recommended a Women’s Clinic nearby who he works closely with so I am making an appointment this week and not returning to my old internal medicine physician!! I was on Prempro for a year and she kept saying the bleeding would stop!! —–== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==—– http://www.dejanews.com/rg_mkgrp.xp Create Your Own Free Member Forum

Now *that’s* interesting. Ladies, take note! (Who was it that was talking about all the women who go off hormones on their own and are hoarding the leftover pills? (-: ) I stopped taking it that day and have finally > stopped bleeding and am feeling great. Yes, we all do. It sounds like you’re lucky to have run into a straightforward gynecologist, though. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. How are your plants doing? –Pat Kight kig…@peak.org

What a concept. Does he suggest that you just shove a pill in the dirt, or make hormone tea, or what? I’ve got this leftover Premphase…. Regards, vlhb…@aol.com

i too am on Prempro for a year. The bleeding stopped after three months and for six months no period. then i started again, not heavy but non the less regular for (3 times in 4 months) My last period was two weeks ago and I started spotting again. I go see my gyn this coming week. This really bothers me. I wonder if it’s over concern. Your letter was interesting. I’m glad I found this web site. Judie
