hi kip uhh lessee. where to start here. MS is DEFINITLY autoimmune. it’s quite possible for something to stimulate your immunew system without kicking up your MS. the immune sys. isn’t monolithic. it has a dizzying degree of complexity and rudundencies. MS is characterised by a shortage of Th-2 cells which are helpers not effectors in the system. and we usually have an abundence of Th-1 cells which are effector cells. Th-1 cells are sorta the junkyard dogs of our cellular immune systems. they attack stuff that the rest of the system tells ‘em to. we have lots of stuff going on in there that actually STOPS these effectors from getting out of hand. so if we were to upregulate thaty stuff, we’d be better off. having said that. boosting the immune system without VERY specific knowledge is a game of russian roulette with a double barrel shotgun. i wouldn’t touch it. you are EXTREMELY unlikely to win at random. far as viruses and bacterial causes of MS. those are thought to stimulate the autoimmune attack via bystander type "collateral damage", molecular mimicry, or combination of above as is diet. i agree with them stimulating attack, i disagree with such simple causality. it ain’t (IMNHO) that simple folks. i wish it were. but either way. the other factors arent what’s doin’ the damage. or at least not most of it. it’s the autoimmune attack brought on for any number of reasons. sorry best wishes ed — ———————————————————————–   "The whole business of his life was in the plunder of his gaze…"

Thanks for bringing me back to reality Ed.  For a minute there I thought I was going to be able to throw out all my books and delete all my cyber info from hundreds of medical and scientific professionals who have been doing actual HANDS ON studies for many, many years.   Kip, I enjoy your posts and your positive outlook but question your credentials. :-) As for New Image Herbs I ask once again, will it cure jock itch? (I’ve never had it, but hear it’s a real bummer) Tick

Paula Jo,                                                               I can’t speak to those supplements safety or effectiveness but I really think MS may not be an autoimmune disease. For instance I take melatonin on a regular basis with no ill effects (supposedly an MS no no because it can enhance the immune system). I think what we call MS is really several different diseases with one label. Some may have a viral cause others may have a bacterial cause. Some may be autoimmune in nature others not.                                                             Best wishes, Kip King Warren and Paula Merrill wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> A friend of mine (you know how it goes) asked me to please check into > this for my MS.  I promised I would so here I am.  It’s called New Image > Plus and has a bunch of stuff I will list.  My biggest question is not > so much does it do all it claims to but is there anything in this to > cause problems?  Has anyone tried this or something like it and what > were the results if any.  Thanks for your help. > Ingredients as listed on company information pamphlet: > GUM KARAYA-Soluble fiber > AMERICAN DESERT HERB-a good source of energy and improves blood > circulaltion, stimulated BAT (the burning of stored white body fat. > KOREAN GINSENG-stimulates mental and physical vigor > BEE POLLEN-increased stamina and prolonged endurance > WHITE WILLOW BARK-helps insomnia, reduces pain and is an > anti-inflammatory > BLADDERWRACK-contains natural iodine to promote a healthy thyroid, > stimulate blood circulation and ease obesity. > GOTU KOLA-reduces high blood pressure, nental fatigue and senility > LICORICE ROOT-gives increased stamina and prolonged endurance > REISHI MUSHROOM-helps problems such as allergies, Chronic Fatigue > Syndrome, Diebetes, liver diseases and many immune related diseases > ASTRAGALUS, GINGER ROOT-gives increased stamina and prolonged endurance. > REHMANNIA ROOT-provides energy and helps strengthen immune system > CHROMIUM PICOLINATE > The only real red flag for me was the Rehmannia root which is supposed > to strengthen the immune system.  Isn’t that just what I DON’T want?  I > really don’t know anything about herbs so I am hoping someone can help > me with this.  Thanks again. > Paula Jo

Response:

Hi Paula Jo! << The only real red flag for me was the Rehmannia root which is supposed to strengthen the immune system. >> That sends up a red flag for me, too.  A few years ago, my sister wanted me to drink "echinecea" (sp?) tea to kick up my immune system against colds and flu. I said no, because I didn’t want to stimulate my immune system.  Now echinecea comes with a warning right on the package: not for use by people with autoimmune disorders.  Some packages even name MS. Taking things that might mess with your immune system is a bad idea. Take care!   Sylvia

A friend of mine (you know how it goes) asked me to please check into this for my MS.  I promised I would so here I am.  It’s called New Image Plus and has a bunch of stuff I will list.  My biggest question is not so much does it do all it claims to but is there anything in this to cause problems?  Has anyone tried this or something like it and what were the results if any.  Thanks for your help. Ingredients as listed on company information pamphlet: GUM KARAYA-Soluble fiber AMERICAN DESERT HERB-a good source of energy and improves blood circulaltion, stimulated BAT (the burning of stored white body fat. KOREAN GINSENG-stimulates mental and physical vigor BEE POLLEN-increased stamina and prolonged endurance WHITE WILLOW BARK-helps insomnia, reduces pain and is an anti-inflammatory BLADDERWRACK-contains natural iodine to promote a healthy thyroid, stimulate blood circulation and ease obesity. GOTU KOLA-reduces high blood pressure, nental fatigue and senility LICORICE ROOT-gives increased stamina and prolonged endurance REISHI MUSHROOM-helps problems such as allergies, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Diebetes, liver diseases and many immune related diseases ASTRAGALUS, GINGER ROOT-gives increased stamina and prolonged endurance. REHMANNIA ROOT-provides energy and helps strengthen immune system CHROMIUM PICOLINATE The only real red flag for me was the Rehmannia root which is supposed to strengthen the immune system.  Isn’t that just what I DON’T want?  I really don’t know anything about herbs so I am hoping someone can help me with this.  Thanks again. Paula Jo
