Now this is *really* interesting to me because I have had depression on and off all my adult life, and right now am pretty depressed off and on (seems to have a circadian rhythm).  I believe I am post-menopausal; it has been 364 days since my last period.  In my lay opinion, I think the fatigue and disturbed sleep resulting from night sweats may have something to do with the depression.  RuthJ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -acca wrote: > 1: Menopause 2002 Nov-Dec;9(6):392 > Vasomotor symptoms are associated with depression in perimenopausal > women seeking primary care. > Joffe H, Hall JE, Soares CN, Hennen J, Reilly CJ, Carlson K, Cohen LS. > Perinatal and Reproductive Psychiatry Program, Reproductive Endocrine > Unit, and Medical Service, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, > USA. hjo…@partners.org > OBJECTIVE: To compare the relationship between vasomotor symptoms (hot > flushes and night sweats) and depression in perimenopausal women with > that in postmenopausal and older premenopausal women. > DESIGN: Questionnaire data assessing current depressive symptoms > (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale), hot flushes, > night sweats, menopausal status, depression history, hormonal therapy > use, and demographic characteristics were collected from women aged 40 > to 60 years seeking primary care. That’s pretty much what I think.  It’s depressing to deal with the hot flashes, night sweats, and sleep depriviation.  Seems to me a vicious cycle then. I have also noticed that I am most depressed when going through a phase of sweating and flashing. But I had concluded that it was the hormonal swings that brought all of it on. I don’t seem to be losing any sleep from the night sweats and I experience insomnia whether I have night sweats or not. But when I am just dealing with insomnia I have had long stretches of not being depressed. And it could be that when I’m "feeling good" I’m not noticing the sweats and flashes. Of course, my recent bout of depression is (I think) my yearly descent into the depths due to the short dark days…  :) Audry — Peering out of the cave

There is situational depression and systemic depression. May pay to ivestigate the difference  between the two. Is derpession" the *only* choice when one experiences night sweats and insomnia?

Thanks for the punnishment. :)  Of course, the days are longer now and my mood is lighter. Audry — Dressing up is a bore. At a certain age, you decorate yourself to attract the opposite sex, and at a certain age, I did that. But I
