Opinions on med combo

Question:

Hypnotic?  Can you define this for me?  What does that actually mean?

Hi Ryan, It means to "induce sleep". Jackie

dalmane works differently then benzos used for anxiety as it isn’t an anxiolytic or a drug to block anxiety but a drug that imparts a high degree of sedation and sleepyness-it is not metablolized like valium and others it is not recomended to be used for any length of time since dependency and tolerance to these drugs does occur-it will eventualy cause more insomnia then it was used to treat if prozac is too stimulating the use another ad med or combine another sedating ad med at bedtime-ask your doctor for his input dalmane at 15mg is not really a small dose it is half of what can be used but even half is not recomended for more then a week or two max. Using a anxiolytic benzo like xanax or klonopin etc would make more sense imo LM

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – If you remember me I started Prozac about four weeks ago.  Currently, I take a Dalmane at night and a Prozac in the morning.  I told this to my Doc and I could tell he was a little reluctant about going with this combo, but decided that if it’s helping me that I should stick with it. I know the Dalmane is a benzo.  I’m only taking 15 mg a night which is considered a low dose.   If I can’t take the Dalmane then there is no way I could take the Prozac.  Is this bad? Any opinions on this? Ryan Dear Ryan, I suspect your doctor is not happy about you taking Dalmane everynight. Even though Dalmane is a benzo, it is used as a hypnotic and prolonged use is usually advised against. Perhaps when the Prozac kicks in and you feel more grounded you can stop taking the Dalmane. I also would ask your doctor why he wasn`t thrilled in the first place about this combo. Take care :) Jackie

Hi Ryan, I take a combination of EffexorXR and XanaxXR daily and it’s worked wonders for me. I don’t know anything about Dalmane, but if it’s a benzo and it works along with the Prozac and you’re feeling better, then I say stick with it. What do they say?…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?  That’s my motto now.
