I haven’t seen it yet, but I read the book a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Though my southern women friends could relate to it a lot more than this transplanted Yankee. — "There’s a seeker born every minute."

I was really reluctant to watch Goldmember, as I thought the first two Austin Powers movies were just…really stupid. But my daughter talked me into it and I actually enjoyed this one. Not enough to see it again for awhile, mind you, but I wasn’t cringing and checking my watch every 10 minutes like with the first ones. <G Cheryl ~~~The creative person is both more primitive and more cultivated, more destructive, a lot madder and a lot saner than the average person.~~~ (Frank Barron)

well being a yankee my self I say give the movie a go and I’ll give the books a go Angie

LOL. I thought Michael Caine was great in the movie. He is one of my favourite actors and looked liked he was having a fun time filming it as well.
Response:
As a rule I seriously dislike, and avoid like the plague, anything that is considered a "chick flick". However my sister just read the book and has been telling me I should read it too. I’ve been holding off as it sounds like a "chick book" as well and that’s another genre I don’t care for, but we’ll see if I get pushed into it. Debbie

If you have an aversion to chick flicks then avoid Ya-Ya Sisterhood like the plague. Seriously. On the same subject … on a whim I accompanied a friend to see Two Weeks Notice the other day. More of the same chick flick messages — a strong woman is destined to be alone until she dolls herself up for her man and then becomes Truly Fulfilled because she finds True Love. Add the additional irritant of a plotline that lectures that living by a strong moral value system means living in a crappy apartment and eating granola and tofu, while being rich is ultra-cool (wow! a helicopter!) and a "hero" who grows not one whit and only does the right thing at the end of the film because he wants to get the girl …. ACK. As the credits rolled I turned to my friend and said, "Gee, and we wonder why women are so screwed up in this culture." Dawn

I enjoyed the book, on a friend’s recommendation, but my southern friends were all able to identify with it a whole lot and it reminded them of their childhoods, but me not much. As a rule, my husband tends to enjoy chick flicks and sappy love stories, while I find them so-so, but not detestable. A good percentage of chick flicks will bore me to sleep, though — good insomnia cure. — "There’s a seeker born every minute."

I’m the same way. Anything with Meg Ryan or Julia Roberts in it, pretty much count me out. And Sandra Bullock makes me wanna gag for some reason…can’t explain it, but have never liked her. Hold fast, Deb! <G Cheryl ~~~The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.~~~ (Ferdinand Foch)
Response:
Well, there is a new Julia Roberts movie coming out called "Mona Lisa Smile" and I may just have to go see it! <gasp However the reason is that it was filmed in my town. In fact some of the big scenes are at the town Women’s Club which is right next door to the house I grew up in, so my old childhood home might even make it into a shot! I just have to go see it for that reason alone. But for any other reason, no way! LOL Debbie – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’m the same way. I hear ya…occasionally there are movies shot around here too and I do watch those just to try to catch familiar locations. I wouldn’t even be paying much attention to the performers at that point.
