Now would I do something like that?? I try not to frighten people(grin).   I have been in peri since before there were computers. Oh, I mean before there were computers in "my life"(grin). sue

Hi, Perry, welcome back.  (Or did you never leave?)   I wish I could tell you what you want to hear, but there’s just no telling when you’ll be fully menopausal.  More frequent, less frequent, heavier, lighter, whatever, it’s all part of the game, and you won’t know it’s over until it’s over.  Fortunately, you’re pretty much guaranteed to win this game.  :-) BTW, sue will probably come along and try to frighten you by telling you she’s been in peri since before there were computers, but don’t listen.   (It’s true, but don’t listen anyway.) History of most regular cycles.  I am 49.  Then in the last year, erratic. Mostly going longer than my usual 28 days.  Lately, though, I am cycling twice a month.  Sludge for the most part.  Someone tell me that right before they stopped having periods they did the same thing….so I can have something to look forward to. Hi, Perry, and welcome to a.s.m. You -could- be near the end.  You also may not be.  There’s really no way to predict when you’ll actually stop. I went through a brief period of periods 20 days apart a couple of years ago, and that was probably the beginning of my easiest stretch.  I still have ‘periods’, but they happen far less regularly, and consist only of a couple of days (or less) of minor spotting. Is irregular bleeding the worst of what you’re dealing with?  Are you having other perimenopausal signs to deal with–hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, etc? A google usenet search for "sludge" on a.s.m. yields quite a few posts: http://www.google.com/groups?as_oq=sludge&safe=images&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF… or http://tinyurl.com/38h2k For further reading: http://www.geocities.com/menobeyond/ http://menopause.tripod.com/ If you have other specific questions, or want to talk about the ways this is affecting your life (work, home, leisur), don’t hesitate to post about them. Well, it might be. ;-)  Actually, it *probably* is, IMO.  :-)  I had longer than normal cycles mixed in w/ normal ones for 5 years, then shorter ones – often twice/month for the last several months, & those were very light. If your body wraps the whole winding-down-of-periods procedure up for you in one year, you are lucky! Yep. That’s what happened to me,near the end. Welcome to asm!!! Sharon……..Don’t think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches.
