Caffeine can leach calcium but it alo is a stimulant and i find it curbs my appetite and energizes me so i have two cups od diluted weak coffee daily and find i am accustomed to the taste of it like that now. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello, I realize that coffee and tea, without sugar, have no calories whatsoever but I wanted to ask what the effect of caffeine on the body is. Is it really that bad?  I have been drinking at least 2-3 large cups of tea every day for the last year. However, it’s not strong tea. I am planning to cut down to 1 cup of tea per week. Thanks in advance.

No, they’re not bad.  Tea is benefical, green tea esp. – may prevent heart disease.  Coffee has pros and cons – one pro is that it may prevent parkinson’s disease.  Another pro is coffee will boost your exercise workout. The con is it increases your cortisol (stress) level.  For better informed opinion than mine go to Dr. Mirkin’s site www.drmirkin.com

Is it really that bad? Caffeine reduces the hydrating properties of the beverage, but only moderately.  Caffeine also raises your metabolism, which may or may not be good, depending on your situation.
