Why such a bad wrap for Lupron?

Question:

My experience with Lupron… My pain was not alleviated until after 4 of 6 injections. Vaginal dryness.Hot flashes, INSOMNIA! Joint and bone pain that made me wince. Loss of bone density. (Clinically found on bone density test…I now border on osteoporosis and need mega calcium supplements) Although not everyone has a bad time on it, I certainly did.  i stuck with the 6 months because it was recommended.  after 3 months the doctor put me on a VERY low dose of estrogen/progesterone (commonly referred to as addback thereapy) That helped the hot flashes, joint pain, and dryness.   I can’t speak yet of how successful the drug was for treating the endo.  The jury is still out on that one.   That’s another story. I read absolutely everything I could on the subject and I believe that we are our best advocates.  Be informed, ask questions, and keep a record of your side effects (if any).   Good Luck to you!   Lori

Howdy,      I am about to have my second Lap and then I will be put on Lupron for 3-6 months.  I’ve heard so many say they didn’t like Lupron, but why?  Has anyone had any possitive reactions to it? Thanks, Alesha

Response:

Lupron has some tough side effects for some women.  And for a few, the problems do not end after the end their Lupron shots, unfortunately.   I have taken Lupron twice with addback therapy (and once without).  I really prefer the addback!  It is not a fun or easy drug, but for me it is the ONLY med that helps reduce my endo pain (esp. from adenomyosis). Hi there! I took Lupron for a year about 3 years ago.  I didn’t experience a lot of the problems other women are talking about.  I had severe hot flashes and that was about it.  I didn’t get my period which was great.  However, the Lupron did not help the Endo and I was soon back to my pain filled days.  I had another lap a year after the Lupron. I also think there are so many negative reactions because doctors are so quick to just prescribe yet another drug to endo sufferers.  Research it very carefully and go over all your concerns with your doctor first.  I have had 3 laps so far.  Just had my first baby and haven’t had my period yet (shes 6 months old)  I have had some spotting with a small amount of cramping, but am not sure if this is my period or what as I am breastfeeding. I’d be glad to help if you have anymore questions!
