Zoloft:Positive Experiences???
Question:
I have been on Zoloft for about 6 months now. The first couple of months were tough. Every side effect you can have I had. They took about 3 months to go away. I was also on a small amount of Ativan and now weaning off. I can’t wait to be off the Ativan. The weaning is very tough. Every time I cut the dose I feel crummy for about 10 days. My doctor wants me to feel good for 2 weeks before I cut more. I think once I am off the Ativan and just on Zoloft I will feel much better. Hang in there. Take the Zoloft in the am. That may help eliminate the insomnia. I could not take it at night. I tried and had insomnia bad. Take Care. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

I was on Prozac for 7 weeks, and was getting terrible headaches daily. Saw my doc, and she put me on Zoloft. She told me about several different drugs in the same category as Prozac that she would have me try until we found the one my body reacted to least. I was scared about the idea of playing roulette with my meds, but anything had to be better than the constant headaches. So I took about a week to come down off the Prozac. (I had been on 20s.) Then I started with 25mg of Zoloft for 4 days, then up’ed it to 50. I’ve been on the Zoloft for 3 weeks now. No headaches, no upset stomach. I feel great! Yesterday, my boss came into my office and told me he actually enjoyed working with me this past week. We had been on each other’s nerves for over a year. Zoloft has been my answer to the mood-swings and tearful outbursts. But, if it’s not working for you, go back to your doc and find the one that _IS_ right for you. You’ll find the one that works… =) Good luck, Kat
Is there anybody out there who has had some positive experiences with Zoloft, in particular in combo with a benzo??
no benzo, just risperdal….. so far zoloft’s done nothing but give me some so shall we say ~~wacky!~~ dreams – the good… headaches when i miss a dose – the bad (yes and i already have migraines)… and sweats & hot flashes – the ugly. interestingly, some say zoloft *helps* w/ the migrains.

I have been off and on it..for once I was on 100mg for 3 months straight, but seemed to have a hard time dealing with the insomnia and fatigue, as well as a bit of increased anxiety. (The reduced libido wasn’t fun, either:( BUT, there where some times when the drug seemed to work really well, and helped me overcome some of my social phobias and with my positive outlook on the future. I was switched from Prozac to Zoloft last winter for about four months….. I hated it, felt like I was jumping out of my skin. One night I cut my pill in half (didn’t call the doctor first, DON’T DO THIS) and after a week or so, I started feeling more normal, but it didn’t do anything for depression, and the side affects were horrid. I’m back on prozac and feeling much better. Linda Is there anybody out there who has had some positive experiences with Zoloft, in particular in combo with a benzo?? I am currently taking Zoloft for PD and depression. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I had tried a lot of medications before and nothing helped. I was on Xanax for a number of years it helped somewhat. Then my doctor put me on Serzone and it didn’t do a thing. I then was on prozac, it made me extremely nervous. Then buspar which made my head and neck ache and my heart pound. I went to a different doctor who tried Zoloft. At first it bothered me. But the more I took it, the better I felt. I am on 75 mgs a day and I feel fine. I have no side effects except maybe slightly decreased libido and extremely vivid and strange dreams which really doesn’t bother me. It took about 5 months of taking it before I felt the way I should feel. Before I started taking Zoloft, I hated to leave the house and avoided it if at all possible. Shopping was definitely out. Now, I attend college, go shopping alone, everything is fine. I sleep well and I don’t seem to get angry as easily, as a matter of fact hardly ever. I have no anxiety whatsoever. I have been a PD sufferer for 23 years off and on. As far as depression goes, my outlook on things has changed drastically. But, every medication works differently on different people. — PGH

James: If you’re still feeling tired on Zoloft after three months, you need your medicine adjusted. You should talk with your doctor. I’m taking Zoloft & I feel great & a little talkative. I definitely don’t feel tired. The medicine has to be adjusted periodically. My doctor adjusts mine 2 or 3 times a year. Do you know it sometimes has to be adjusted for the seasons? Call your doctor & let him know how you’re feeling. If you get no reaction, you need to find a new doctor. I went through 3 doctors before I found one who was truly interested in my reactions to the medicine & how I was doing with it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Is there anybody out there who has had some positive experiences with Zoloft, in particular in combo with a benzo?? Because I suffered from the same symptoms since youth and saw the obvious change in my son’s life, I went for therapy and was also put on the drug. Within a very short time I experienced life without the constant cloud of depression and anxioty. I have been taking 200 mg of Zoloft with over 3 years, no longer see a psychiatrist or therapist (my MD supplies the prescription), and can say honestly, it’s as if I was reborn. I did have the strange dreams, if one wants to call them "dreams." They were more like "waking dreams" and occurred when I was just coming out of sleep. I actually enjoyed them, knowing they were not real and only lasted a few minutes. I will still have one once in a great while. The only other drawback was pretty constant loose stools. My migrains have all but ceased (and had been a real problem all my life). If I miss three days in a row, I feel intermittent waves of dizziness and feel more emotional. All in all, it’s changed my life for the best and am glad I took the step and started the treatmment. I’m on my second go around with Zoloft. I initially started taking it last winter and didn’t have any drastic negative side effects. The first week, of course, I experienced mild headaches, mild nausea, a general feeling of of quasi-mania and sleeplessness; but these dissipated after approx 7-10 days. I took Zoloft until late Spring and stopped. (It seems my depression in definitely seasonal…) I’m now starting on the second go around and in the initial first week of sucky side effects. I never noticed any of the wild dreams… I did. however, experience a great deal of sweating during the night. Just my humble opinion…

I understand risperdal is an anti-psychotic, and if it is of no benefit to you for depression, maybe you should talk to your doc about this? If you do suffer from mania along with the Zoloft, there are a number of good anti-manic, actually anti-epileptic, drugs out there used for this. These would include Neurotin, Depakote, etc. Anyways..YMMV…let us know how you make out. Peace.. James:-)

(Doug Warner) writes: I initially started taking it at 9PM, working up to 50mg. During the first two weeks I would wake up with the extreme jitters 1-2 times a night, but still managed to get back to sleep after distracting myself with some TV and hot chocolate.
I haven’t had any of this, thank God. I just seem to be really sleepy at night (I take it about 11pm) and in the morning, too. I also have dry mouth. Other than that, I guess I’m not taking enough yet. I go to 50mgs tonight. I think I’ll keep taking it at night with the xanax. It’s working for me
Also, I don’t feel hungry very much. Cindy -Cindy
