probably similar. but as with all drugs YMMV >give me a little more energy. It is also helping me cope with the side >effects of another drug I am trying out.
I suppose it would depend on how the individual functions. That is, I do not work in the Real World anymore. But I require sleep meds and have for several years because the pain level would otherwise keep me awake (and becuase I have developed a "dependence" on them). Taking a stimulant therefore would possibly be destructive – you know – take soemthing to wake you up and give you energy, than have to take something to calm you down so you can sleep. However, if the half-life of this med is short, than this whole discussion could be moot. IOW, if you can take it to get through the day and still sleep well at night and get restorative sleep. than it would likely be safe and not a concern in the way we expressed. >Like all drugs there are benifits and risks, it just a matter of which way >the scale tips at any point in time. understand. thanks for the info. i imagine there are some of us that could use this – even if it’s just to get through a particular day of the week (like my zombie routine at church every Sunday

Just to clarify, I don’t have lupus, I fall into the "undefined" category of connective tissue disease so I can’t say how the drug would impact lupus. Provigil is definately a stimulent and as such has all the potential problems associated with the use of that category of drugs. It also certainly does not eliminate fatigue and I still need to rest but it does give me a little more energy. It is also helping me cope with the side effects of another drug I am trying out. I don’t know that I would feel comfortable taking Provigil indefinately but then then I feel that way about most of the drugs I take. But right now it is giving me enough extra energy to get to work each day. Like all drugs there are benifits and risks, it just a matter of which way the scale tips at any point in time. So on my personal balance scale, at this point in time, it is worth the potential problems because I’m not sure I would be making it to work without it. June

I’ve tried Provigil twice, hoping to overcome narcolepsy, lack of focus, and overwhelming inertia. Didn’t get a chance to come to a possibly effective dose because within 2 days the recognizable symptoms of sub-clinical seizures returned. Dang! BTW, it didn’t relieve fatigue at all for me. I am going to try Topomax myself. Anybody have any experience with that? Hugs all, Barbara KCat <kcdoc…@ghg.net> wrote in message

It made sense to me too KCat. Today my muscles feel so weak and tired that I had trouble getting up the stairs. My walk with the dogs tonight was very brief, and although I felt guilty about that,I had a long hot bath instead. Physically that was the best choice. Now,if I took something that made me feel well enough to push harder,I am not sure that my body would benefit. BJ "KCat" <kcdoc…@ghg.net> wrote in message

Hi All, I am interested in the drug Provigil, and did see the posts on it’s use in narcolepsy. I mentioned this to my husband, because if it is available in Canada,I would like to try it. I am so overwhelmingly tired much of the time. He made a good point which I think is worth asking the group. He said that resting when one is tired is important for lupus patients. He questioned the wisdom of using a drug that might artificially keep you from resting when your body needs it. Any thoughts on that? Regards, BJ

one thought. "Gee. that makes sense!" If I think about how caffeine wipes me out (in the form of aspirin and caffeine for maigraines) I don’t think I’d want to take a med that won’t let me rest. Now, if it’s a med that will simply restore som e of my weakening muscle strength that’s another matter. I’d love to know more abou t it. scuse the typos… *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional.
