Can sinusitis cause sleep apnea?

Question:

Hello all, I have been undergoing CPAP treament for sleep apnea. It has done little in making me feel rested because my sinuses always block up every time I lie down (actually some times they block for no aparent reason), mostly on the right. I have a deviated septum, smaller on the left. My question is, could it be possible that my blocked sinuses are causing sleep apnea? Does anyone else feel fatigued because of sinus problems? Any experiences, good and bad, would be appreciated, especially with meds or sprays. I already do the irigation thing which seems to help a little but doesn’t do too much in the blockage problem.

Do you use a heated, in-line humidifier with the CPAP? Lack of humidification can cause nasal congestion. Flonase or Nasonex sprays sometimes help. I also was treated surgically for severe nasal polyps and a deviated septum. This helped me considerably using CPAP. But it may not be your problem, of course. OSA is generally caused by sagging or collapsed tissue in the airway and the tongue sliding back and blocking the throat, not by sinus or nasal congestion. The congestion certainly makes using CPAP more difficult. —————————————————- "Trudy is Beauth, Beauth, Trudy"
