Response:

Does anyone else get so tired that they can not wake up no matter how hard anyone tries to wake them?  My family tells me that I am sleeping myself to death when this happens but I just can’t wake up.  An hour or two later then I can often get up, this is after sleeping 10-18 hours.

DEFINITELY!!  Its disrupting my life something bad.  I have "mild" UC (which a couple of doctors tell me shouldn’t be making me feel as bad as I feel) but I sleep through alarms, my family literally CANNOT wake me up most days and doing any normal job is pretty much out of the question. I’ve had this happen for about six years.  I was diagnosed with UC five years ago.  When I’m REALLY well (ie NO bleeding, skin irritations or tiredness) I have normal sleep, work and rest patterns, but if I have even a slight flare-up (like at the moment) I feel positively rotten, and I can’t wake up. You aren’t the only one!  I’d be interested to see if anyone else has these problems. Dave

Response:

Hi Paul,      Do you have Crohn’s?  I’ve heard that folks with Crohn’s are sometimes fatigued due to malabsobtion of Vitamin B-12.  I’m looking into injections for myself.  I’m hearing from others in the ng that it may help my joints. Good Luck, Andrea

Response:

Dear Paul, When I was very weak with Crohn’s I was sleeping for about 18  hours a day too and lost 30 lbs.  My GI put me Prednesone – I hate it but it’s was the only thing that got me out of the sleep cycle. Good luck

I have already been that route, my CPAP machine has an honoured place in my bedroom.  I have been on the machine for 8 years, I now think of my birthday as 1 Feb, 92. Usually I am ok if I get a nap in the afternoon, if I go a day without a nap the next day I am dang near comatose.  My fatique is causing a lot of friction in the family, needless to say I am on long term disability leave. Please don’t tell me that I am unique.  O yeah, I have CD. Thanx – Paul

Andrea Go for the B12 injections, without them I am really dead. Hi Paul.. I have the same problem these days. I can sleep for ten hours straight, get up, and then need another nap a couple of hours later… I get B12-injections every two months, and the next one is 7 days off. I can really feel the need for it now. I also have CD, and have had the terminal part of my ileum removed, (the ONLY part of your intestines that absorbs B12). So I would really recommend the B12-shots. Check with your doctor. They can make a socalled Shilling-test, to see how much B12 you absorb on your own. In my case it was 4%, but that was before surgery. Now it’s 0%..  (c: Good luck Kind regards Kenneth G * Sent from AltaVista http://www.altavista.com Where you can also find related Web Pages, Images, Audios, Videos, News, and Shopping.  Smart is Beautiful

Kaz A CPAP machine is a constant positive aairway pressure device which in combination with a special mask keeps the airways inflated and prevents sleep apnea.
