OT: snoring and surgery

Question:

My father had HUGE snoring problems. The room would vibrate with them. He had surgery to reduce the snoring, and though he said it was very painful for two weeks after the surgery, I have noticed that his snoring is quieter and not as ‘trumpetous’ ( new word ). shauna – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I need to talk with anyone who has snoring problems or sleep apnea. ‘trumpetous’ ( new word ).

Love your new word! Azgirrl PS- I snore terribly(sp?) or so my family would have me believe . I am going to see a Pulmonologist in 10 days. Sleep study. Ought to be interesting.

Response:

I snore very bad and have for several years.  I saw an ear, nose and throat Dr. and I am doing a sleep study Friday.  It depends if I have sleep apnea as to how extensive the surgery will be.  I have a deviated septum, enlarged tonsils and an excessively long palate.  So all three things will have surgery.  I am determined to do this, but am also very scared, I know it will be pretty painful. My husband has never said a thing to me about the snoring, but others have and I feel so bad for my husband having to hear this every night. I was hoping to talk with anyone who has had this done.  Thanks for responding and good luck with your test. Sharon – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – ‘trumpetous’ ( new word ). Hi Sharon: I had surgery, UPPP, in February.  I personally feel it was the best thing I could have done.  I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea two years ago.  I tried the CPAP machine, it is the standard treatment.  I did not tolerate it at all.  Please feel free to e-mail me if you have further Best Wishes, Linda

I do know that there is an alt. support sleep disorders group online.  I don’t know how to tell you to get there because I am on AOL but you could try through deja Lots of Love   Vikki Whoever said "No Pain,No Gain" obviously never had any REAL PAIN !!!

Response:

There is an NG for sleep apnea on AOL….my husband had that and subscribes to it. (I can’t remember the exact name) He had his tonsils removed and the finally took his machine off from him. (He was severe too). However, his snoring is coming back a little and he is being reevaluated again. We opted not to have UPPP done, since according to our extensive research, we found that it did not work in a majority of cases (it was "overkill"). Just having the tonsils out for him worked beautifully. Take care, Het
