Support Group or Not ???

Question:

Bob, I do not know or inderstand the background of the issues prior to this (ie your previous postings). Assuming this is all a misunderstanding I will offer my advice….the 8000 series DeVilbiss is the best. No contest IMHO. I have the 8001, can’t say enough good things about it. Re: your header "Support group or not". Quite honestly this pissed me off. You bet it’s a support group. Better than most. I will assume you did not get the responses you were looking for initially. If you are genuine and need help, stay in here and help as much as you can as well as receiving help from others. You sound genuine Bob, just don’t attack us, as others advised, we are tired by design and don’t have time for negativity or related BS. <snip> Somehow, something completely different came through. All I saw the first time was a collection of HTML that played a MIDI file (!). It’s best to not use the fancy stuff as it not infrequently does things like that.

A quick note, if you haven’t already been told this… Elavil (Amytriptyline HCl) is a tricyclic antidepressant.  What that means to you is that it’s OLD.  It’s not much used any more because of its potential side effects and one biggy:  lethargy.  It seems ludicrous to put a sleep-deprived person on a medicine that can cause excessive daytime lethargy. I know all of this from personal experience.  Elavil turned me into a zombie…  Always tired, always sleepy, foggy brain. Get your doc to re-evaluate your meds, maybe one of the SSRI’s or SNRI’s is better for you. — Tom (depressed AND apneaic) In article <19675-38DEBAE9-…@storefull-136.iap.bryant.webtv.net>, wes…@webtv.net (BOB WEST) wrote: > I received an E-Mail from Magesteff explaining where I may have messed > up so to speak. Bob, I too, would have no idea which would be the most quiet running machine so I really didn’t respond to your first post.  I have a Sullivan VPAP II and it’s so quiet that once we are in concert I sometimes think it may not be running. I have done well with the Mirage mask.  I bought a GoldSeal and hated it (was like having ‘ 47 Packard parked on my face!), a true waste of money (you can’t return them to Rhema or any other place I suppose). My insurance company chooses for me and so far I’ve been okay with the choices. Your problems sound much more complex that mine, sorry I am not qualified to answer some of your concerns. Group: alt.support.sleep-disorder Date: Wed, Mar 22, 2000, 4:09pm From: wes…@webtv.net (BOB WEST) Subject: Quietest CPAP machine.           It has been a long time since I posted in this group. It’s been over 5 years that I first started to really notice that I needed a sleep study done. Same problems that everyone had. Tired all day, foggy head, memory loss, gasping for air and waking up at night. Had the sleep study, could not stand the mask with the leaf blower. Elected to have the UPPP. Did not help. Back for another sleep study. Setting at 10. Forced myself to work with it. Also had surgery to correct deviated septum and infected sinuses. With the 2 operations and 5 sleep studies I am on the CPAP at setting of 10. For the last 7 months the sleep doc. put me on 75mg Ellaville <spell?> to help me sleep. I sleep but now I am back to being tired again and my head has that old foggy feeling. Have an appointment with sleep doc. on 11 April. I want to request another sleep study with my mask. (Mirage) That way I can get the correct setting for what I normally wear at night. I am also requesting another CPAP. Mine is a Healthtyne (Spell?) It sounds like a freight train now. No longer quite. What I would like to know is what the consensus is as to the quietest CPAP machine that can be had. That will be the one I will request. Thank you. BOB WEST PS My Mirage mask came apart a few times and I used Super Glue. Works great. This is a copy of an E-Mail that I received. Can anyone offer a suggestion? Yes, I am pleased to offer a suggestion as follows: Please stop wasting the time of people with sleep disorders with irrelevant postings to this newsgroup. I could offer other suggestions but this is *by far* the most polite. — Tony Polson, North Yorkshire, UK     I thought this to be a very inappropriate E-Mail. I sent Mr Polson an E-Mail and asked him to clarify his statement about my post being irrelevant to this newsgroup. He either failed or elected not to respond.  I would greatly appreciate knowing where the irrelevancy is in the above posting. If this is in fact a support group for sleep disorders and I posted about problems with sleep disorders and requested input on a real quiet CPAP machine, then where is it considered irrelevant. It it Mr Polson’s job to screen postings in this newsgroup. Maybe I am wrong in assuming that this was an open forum for everyone that is interested in sleep disorders . If this is not the case then please let me know and I will refrain from posting here. Thank you.                         BOB WEST
