Ambien
Question:
The only thing I heard about Melatonin was that it was bad to take with SOME kinds of Antidepressants….. Hi Tamara – My neuro has me on Ambien (10 mg) and it helps. It is hard to know what nights are going to be difficult going to sleep, but when I think of it (I’m a LITTLE absent minded, to say the least) I do think it helps. Try taking it about an hour or so before you go to bed. Good luck, Tammy in Dallas

Hi guys. Thanks for the reponses. I started on the 10 mg dose and that seems to work better. I also cut down on the Effexor from 150 mg daily to 75 mg which may help too. Well, I’m off to bed now for (hopefully) a good night’s rest (sigh). Thanks again. Tamara

Check it out before you do. My neuro. is a sleep disorder specialist. She said to take calcium-mag. and zinc at night. I use it and told my friends about it and they also said it helped them to sleep. We need it to protect our bones anyway. I tried 10 mg and it did nothing for me. What you want is Resteril (temazepam). I take the 30 mg, but you might want to start out with the 15 mg. It’s very, very effective stuff, so use with caution, don’t take it during the day, or try to drive on it. It is a benzodiazepine, and is subject to tolerance. It does put you soundly to sleep, and keeps you sleeping. I like to go to bed early to avoid moring drowsiness! I’ve been taking melatonin for sleep problems for over a year now and I’d certainly like to know what that article originally said!! Melatonin is the ONLY thing that works for my sleep problems so I’d like to know if there is a potential problem for use in MS..and yes my neuro knows that I take it and has never said it was a problem.. ————–BREE————————— "It could be said that my illness, although my enemy, is also my ally, my ally in that it removes me from the hustle and bustle and makes me redefine myself. Dear Tamara: I was on Ambien for over 1 year…my neuro had me on 10 mg a night. I did find out something interesting that unless I was lying in bed when I took it, I would be up all night. Try taking it right when you are in bed, not a while before you go to bed. Also, I’m no longer on any meds for sleeping…I’m on herbs now and am sleeping like a baby! Hi, Tammy – > Is anyone taking Ambien for sleep?
I took 10 mg. of Ambien every night while taking oral methylprednisolone last October during an exacerbation. My neuro prescribed it, saying it would help to counter the insomnia from methylpred. It worked quite well. >My neuro started me on it > yesterday, and as you can see (it’s 2:30 am), it’s not working. He put > me on the 5 mg dose. Is it possible that I need more?
The PHYSICIAN’S DESK REFERENCE recommends the following: "The dose of Ambien should be individualized. The recommended dose for adults is 10 mg. immediately before bedtime…Elderly or debilitated patients may be especially sensitive to the effects of Ambien. Patients with hepatic insufficiency do not clear the drug as rapidly as normals." >I’m soooooo tired, but can’t > seem to fall asleep anymore. Please help!
You might call the doctor who prescribed your Ambien and let them know you’re still having trouble falling asleep. It’s possible they’ll increase your dosage. Hope you’re sleeping better, Tammy! Susan
