Bumps in the Night!

Question:

it could be one of the symptoms of a sleep disorder, but the only way to find out is to see a sleep specialist and have a sleep study done. — Beth in Australia =================== FAQ for alt.support.sleep-disorder can be found here http://www.anchorweb.com.au/sleepdisorders this site is a work in progress – feel free to submit info/articles

Response:

Am sound asleep. Suddenly wake up apparently hearing strange sounds. Maybe the front-doorbell ringing, or someone climbing up the stairs, or using bathroom: or – most frequently –  sounds of storm battering bedroom windows. Alarmed! Sit up in bed  - noises continue. Sit on edge of bed, preparing to investigate. Try to stand up. As legs begin to straighten, hear loud rythmic bumping inside my head, forcing me to sit down again in fear. Despite being conscious, feel as if part of my brain is still asleep and refuses to wake up. Settle down again. Episode repeats once or twice. Eventually back to normal sleep. _____________________________ None of the ‘noises’  are ‘real’. Phenomenon occurs about one per week. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
