full face mask

Question:

L, Go to cpapman.com.  It’s not the only site on the web but one of the most complete ones.  You’ll see lots of mask options. Personally, I cannot get a full sized mask to seal.  VERY frustrating.  They are especially good for mouth breathers. HTH, Raleighgirl "LJM" <lmar…@shaw.ca> wrote in message

I would bother with a FF mask only if you mouth-breath with a nose mask. FF masks are more difficult to fit and seal properly. I use a respironics FF mask (large, though my nose masks are medium-size – but it still doesn’t permit mouth-breathing, which is OK). I get tired of each of my masks (two nose masks and a FF mask) and trade off each every few days. As for sealing, strap tension is critical, though I tighten the bottom straps more on the FF mask than on the nose masks. Before wearing, I wipe the contact area of the mask, then the skin area, with a damp paper towel (or similar). No matter how I adjust the straps, the FF mask leaks under the lower straps, but soon after lying down on my side on a pillow, it stops leaking (the same is true for nose mask – maybe from heating slightly and reforming slightly?). The nose masks are generally more comfortable and they seal more easily than FF mask (the Res Med Activa may be the best here, though it is a bit big and heavy compared with the Respironics Comfort Select, for nose masks). It was $75.00 USD.  Cheaper than another hotel room. > In two years of my reading here (and I think you’ve been here part oaf that time) you > are the first to inquire about a disposable face mask of any kind.

Thats part of the reason I posted.  I had no idea that "disposable" masks existed.  I wonder if it is some kind of designation for insurance purposes. (i.e. replacing disposable more often than durable items)  My guess is that is for use in hospitals. > > The head gear is a joke, flimsy > Compared to what?

I use the Adams and have seen several other models at displays and such. The headgear is thin, light and doesn’t stretch very well. > > and > > difficult to adjust.  I wouldn’t recommend buying this product unless you > > were desperate (as I was). > Can you think of any reason why anyone would buy one who was receiving continuous > nightime xpap treatment.

Not really, it helped me get through a couple of days with minimal expense. > > Second, I am having problems keeping it from leaking.  I suspect that poor > > design is the root of the problem.  It has four straps that barely fit > > around my head. > Right size headgear?  Mask?  Were you fitted when you took your

I have looked at the (regular) Mirage at cpapman’s site and it looks very similar. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> > Tighter than I think it should be. > > Third, my mouth gets extremely dry.  I use a heated humidifier set fairly > > low.  Do you other full face mask users crank up the humidity.  How does > > this affect rainout? > I would only expect dry mouth if you were opening your lips either with or without an > FFM. > Ever have dry mouth with your pillows?  If so, you may have more with FFM because, if > you open your lips, you can be asssured that air from the xpap will also enter your > mouth.

Dry mouth with the pillows is why I got the prescription in the first place. (only happens occasionally)  I intended to get a mask months ago, but I moved and started a new job with new medical insurance.  I have just now got around to finding a new doctor.  I plan on discussing the mouth breathing with my new doctor and taking it from there. > > Despite the problems it was a worthwhile purchase.  I found out that I can > > tolerate a full face mask and although it is not working like it should, it > > is better than nothing. > > I would really like to get this thing working better so I could reliably use > > it as a back up. > Seems like you have pretty great expectations for a cheap disposable mask.

True.  I feel it was worth it for a couple of days, but would like to use it as a stand by if I can get it to work.  That’s probably wishful thinking, but I will give it a shot. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> And that’s my opinion. > > I need to get some new gear and would rather replace the > > nose pillow set-up than get a full face mask. New one on me also! Apparently the Spectrum comes in reusable and disposable. Hey Norm/anyone, has anybody used this Hans Rudolph Full Face? http://www.cpapman.com/ffmasks.html I’m considering a full face since I might be mouth breathing even with my chinstrap. You said the price was right.  What was the price?  My understanding has always been that you get what you pay for. In two years of my reading here (and I think you’ve been here part oaf that time) you are the first to inquire about a disposable face mask of any kind. > The head gear is a joke, flimsy

Can you think of any reason why anyone would buy one who was receiving continuous nightime xpap treatment. > Second, I am having problems keeping it from leaking.  I suspect that poor > design is the root of the problem.  It has four straps that barely fit > around my head.

Right size headgear?  Mask?  Were you fitted when you took your prescription in? > I have tried to leave it loose, but it seems to fit best > when tight.

Curious to know if the mechanical design is the same as their original regular FFM or equivalent to their Series 2 FFM. > Tighter than I think it should be. > Third, my mouth gets extremely dry.  I use a heated humidifier set fairly > low.  Do you other full face mask users crank up the humidity.  How does > this affect rainout?

I would only expect dry mouth if you were opening your lips either with or without an FFM. Ever have dry mouth with your pillows?  If so, you may have more with FFM because, if you open your lips, you can be asssured that air from the xpap will also enter your mouth. > Despite the problems it was a worthwhile purchase.  I found out that I can > tolerate a full face mask and although it is not working like it should, it > is better than nothing. > I would really like to get this thing working better so I could reliably use > it as a back up.

Seems like you have pretty great expectations for a cheap disposable mask. For years, I have been using nose pillows with success -except when my sinuses are clogged.  While I was out of town for the holidays they blocked up solid. Fortunately, I had my prescription for a full face mask with me. I took it to a DME and purchased a ResMed Mirage disposable full face mask. (That was all they had and the price was right)  It helped get me through a couple nights of severely blocked nasal passages.  The mask didn’t work so well, but it was good enough for me to get some sleep. I have had several problems with it and would like to read any comments you all would care to make. First, this thing is a piece of junk.  The head gear is a joke, flimsy and difficult to adjust.  I wouldn’t recommend buying this product unless you were desperate (as I was). Second, I am having problems keeping it from leaking.  I suspect that poor design is the root of the problem.  It has four straps that barely fit around my head.  I have tried to leave it loose, but it seems to fit best when tight.  Tighter than I think it should be. Third, my mouth gets extremely dry.  I use a heated humidifier set fairly low.  Do you other full face mask users crank up the humidity.  How does this affect rainout? Despite the problems it was a worthwhile purchase.  I found out that I can tolerate a full face mask and although it is not working like it should, it is better than nothing. I would really like to get this thing working better so I could reliably use it as a back up.  I need to get some new gear and would rather replace the nose pillow set-up than get a full face mask. I have an appointment with a doctor in a couple of weeks to find out why my nose is suddenly so clogged and to get some new equipment. Any comments appreciated. Thanks, Kietz
