Internet Explorer does that autoMAGICally! And it even makes a real folder/subfolder structure so all the "normal" Windows commands can work on it. — Visit Charlie’s Sneaker Pages: http://sneakers.pair.com/

In Netscape (4.8 now, thanks to you <g>), click on ‘Bookmarks’ then select ‘Edit Bookmarks’. When the new window opens look for a section in your list called "Personal Toolbar Folder". Any folder ot link you put here will appear on your "Personal Toolbar" just below the menu or other toolbars. If you don’t see it, click on VIEW, then SHOW, then select Personal Toolbar. On the Navigation Toolbar (the one with the URL or Location window) there should be a little icon between the words "Bookmarks" and "Location" you can use this to drag your CURRENT page to the folder you created on the Personal Toolbar. – - -How to create a folder in the Personal Toolbar (maybe save a later question?) – Open your bookmarks: click on ‘Bookmarks’ then select ‘Edit Bookmarks’ – Find the entry: "Personal Toolbar Folder" and click on it once. – Click on [FILE], [NEW FOLDER}. – Give it an appropriate name (or not- sometimes ‘New Folder’ works) – You’re done- start filling it with URL’s. Wish it was more exciting ;-)  was able to catch a short nap midday (with the machine on for a change) so I could watch what turned out to be a disappointing movie late last night. Vic

Incredible, I thought I knew everything ’bout this Netscape thing… I’ve seen it, I’ve gone past it, never actually looked well… thansk for telling me… amazing, no kidding. Just like this funny switch in your everyday car you never used ;-) ) It takes another person to tell you. Welcome to the 4.8 club, Vic! Maria

Thanks.   "sleepless by choice tonight" sounds exciting.  Want to tell us more?

I haven’t used netscape for quite a while (exept for testing websites for compatibility before completing them) but i vaguelly remember that i liked netscapes bookmarks better than IE… i know i had them filed under a lot of differnet sections…which sounds like what you’re referring to… and the best bit, is it saves them all in a single htm file (it used to be called bookmark.htm) so it was easy to take with you if you’re away or something! just email yourself the bookmark.htm file and you have all your bookmarks right there — Beth in Australia =================== FAQ for alt.support.sleep-disorder can be found here http://www.anchorweb.com.au/sleepdisorders this site is a work in progress – feel free to submit info/articles

Try this site: http://www.webattack.com/freeware/misctools/fwurlorg.shtml  (watch for wordwrap). There’s a couple of pages of free URL-organizers of varying quality. You’ll have to decide which suits your needs and requirements best. They also have a great selection of shareware and demo software. The home link is: http://Webattack.com A second thing you might try is to make folders on the toolbar that you can drag & drop the links into. When I’m researching a new topic, I build a folder for it, place it on the toolbar and then drag & drop into one place. Hope this helps, Vic sleepless by choice tonight :-)

Since the good people here have helped me with both sleep problems and computer problems, perhaps someone can lead me to a simple bookmark program, freeware preferred, but shareware is OK. I’m looking for something to use with Netscape Communicator 4.8.  I’d be happy with something as simple as that used by Internet Explorer.  When you want to bookmark a site (save a favorite), it asks you where to file it or if you need to make a new folder to file it in…… Just that simple. TIA

Response:

Norm, on the pull downs under communicator see bookmarks … choose file and it creates a system of files for your links/bookmarks.  You get three choices … save (which drops it to the bottom of the list and saves it) file or edit which allows you to rearrange and fiddle with them, create folders etc. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -NormC wrote: > Since the good people here have helped me with both sleep problems and > computer problems, perhaps someone can lead me to a simple bookmark > program, freeware preferred, but shareware is OK. > I’m looking for something to use with Netscape Communicator 4.8.  I’d be > happy with something as simple as that used by Internet Explorer.  When you > want to bookmark a site (save a favorite), it asks you where to file it or > if you need to make a new folder to file it in…… Just that simple. > TIA

Response:

Yes, thanks.  However, that’s not quite what I’m looking for.   What I’m looking for operates as follows:  When you decide to bookmark a site and "RIGHT-CLICK | ADD BOOKMARK", a little popup asks where you want to file the new bookmark or if you want to make a new folder to file it it. The software I am looking for has nothing to do with NC per se.  It merely looks for the command to bookmark and then looks at the existing bookmark folders and presents them for choice. I’ve been dragging and dropping bookmarks for years.  Getting tired of doing it, particularly when it isn’t necessary to do so. BTW, N6 or 7 or both have such a capability, even though none of the versions of NC do. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Susan Williamson Hill wrote: > Norm, > on the pull downs under communicator see bookmarks … choose file and it > creates a system of files for your links/bookmarks.  You get three choices … > save (which drops it to the bottom of the list and saves it) file or edit which > allows you to rearrange and fiddle with them, create folders etc. > NormC wrote: > > Since the good people here have helped me with both sleep problems and > > computer problems, perhaps someone can lead me to a simple bookmark > > program, freeware preferred, but shareware is OK. > > I’m looking for something to use with Netscape Communicator 4.8.  I’d be > > happy with something as simple as that used by Internet Explorer.  When you > > want to bookmark a site (save a favorite), it asks you where to file it or > > if you need to make a new folder to file it in…… Just that simple. > > TIA
