Quietest CPAP machine.

Unfortunately, in your case, setting the CPAP at 10 makes the mask a useless gadget that sits on the end of your nose. Some type of auto-CPAP (if you can get your insurance and doctor to go for it) might be a good choice… as it would keep the pressure lower except when you need a good blast. However, auto-CPAPs have to allow through a certain rate of events to set the pressure.

Yes, I am pleased to offer a suggestion as follows: Please stop wasting the time of people with sleep disorders with irrelevant postings to this newsgroup. I could offer other suggestions but this is *by far* the most polite. — Tony Polson, North Yorkshire, UK

Tony…. were you thinking of a rather bizarre biological feat that involves great flexibility? <g> Regards, Lee — Lee Babcock Scarborough (Toronto), Ontario, Canada Email —- babco…@idirect.ca

Lee, I always had a feeling that you had psychic powers. Now I know you have. You’re a mind reader. <g> Unfortunately my own (very limited) psychic ability did not enable me to make any sense of BOB WEST’s posting, and he has written me a forthright and tersely worded email to express his very strong disappointment (you’ll understand what I mean) with my reply. No doubt the computers at WebTV.net garbled and/or removed the erudite and succinct text that BOB thought he’d posted, and may have, but which never arrived on ye olde file server here in the good old fashioned United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Sometimes I wonder why I waste my time. Today was one of those days. — Tony Polson, North Yorkshire, UK

There was no spam intended. My first post was the one that I was looking for suggestions and or input. I messed up on the second post. Apparently you only read the second one. Sorry if I confused you. BOB WEST

It has been a long time since I posted in this group. It’s been over 5 years that I first started to really notice that I needed a sleep study done. Same problems that everyone had. Tired all day, foggy head, memory loss, gasping for air and waking up at night. Had the sleep study, could not stand the mask with the leaf blower. Elected to have the UPPP. Did not help. Back for another sleep study. Setting at 10. Forced myself to work with it. Also had surgery to correct deviated septum and infected sinuses. With the 2 operations and 5 sleep studies I am on the CPAP at setting of 10. For the last 7 months the sleep doc. put me on 75mg Ellaville <spell?> to help me sleep. I sleep but now I am back to being tired again and my head has that old foggy feeling. Have an appointment with sleep doc. on 11 April. I want to request another sleep study with my mask. (Mirage) That way I can get the correct setting for what I normally wear at night. I am also requesting another CPAP. Mine is a Healthtyne (Spell?) It sounds like a freight train now. No longer quite. What I would like to know is what the consensus is as to the quietest CPAP machine that can be had. That will be the one I will request. Thank you. BOB WEST PS My Mirage mask came apart a few times and I used Super Glue. Works great.

I use the Respironics Aria XL and it seems to be pretty quiet.

Can anyone offer a suggestion?

I have a Sullvan lightweight. You cant even hear it hardly. It also has settings so that you can gradually increase pressure over a 5, 10, or 20 minute time period. Oh and by the way, I wish I could be set at 10, Im at 16.

Wish whatever you want! If your prescription is for 16, 16 it must be. How long have you been on it? If after a few weeks, you really can’t tolerate the thing, talk to the prescribing doctor and have them do an order for a reduced setting on a temporary basis so that you can increase the pressure setting over time to build up tolerance. However, your titration should show not only the required pressure to eliminate OSA, but also the maximum level that you can tolerate if it is less than the prescribed pressure.
