sleep apnea nightmare
Question:
Why would you ’suffocate’? If anything, the CPAP would force air in. I’ve had a few colds and sore throats during my years on CPAP and never found a reason for any of them to make me stop using it. Also, my doc says ‘*NEVER* sleep without the CPAP unless you talk to a sleep doc first. *NEVER*’. regards, eric pearson db2e…@nospammindspring.com On 8 Jun 2003 07:54:37 -0700, frenchfrye2…@mindspring.com (barry) wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->The reason I was not wearing my cpap was because I have this really >dry enflamed throat from a cold or virus I have. Wrong logic… CPAP (CONSTANT POSITIVE airway pressure) — the positive pressure will UNconstrict it.

Barry……. your thinking is wrong and continuing to not use your CPAP COULD do you in! Regards Lee in Toronto —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–

Sounds like good advice to me. I’ve had colds, and slept better because I use cpap. During a recent 6 day stay in hospital, they insisted that I use my cpap after general anaesthetic. Either that or my wife would have to stay in my room to observe me constantly while I slept, to make sure I survived! Using cpap once its prescribed is a good idea

The reason I was not wearing my cpap was because I have this really dry enflamed throat from a cold or virus I have. I fear that if my throat is constricted and I wear the mask then I will suffocate. So I am waiting for my throat to heal but I dread sleeping now. And my throat is taking its sweet time!

why do you feel it would make you suffocate? the whole idea of cpap is to splint your airway open….. sorry, i might be sounding a bit thick here but i just dont’ get it — Beth in Australia =================== FAQ for alt.support.sleep-disorder can be found here http://talhost.net/sleep this site is a work in progress – feel free to submit info/articles Remove my name to reply

why are you not wearing cpap because of a sore throat? Blocked nose i can understand…..but even wtih a sore throat, you can still use the cpap…… you could try using some of those anaesthetic loznges before going to sleep to help ease the discomfort — Beth in Australia =================== FAQ for alt.support.sleep-disorder can be found here http://talhost.net/sleep this site is a work in progress – feel free to submit info/articles Remove my name to reply

I also used to have dreams about being naked in public and dreams of falling off high ladders, usually by having the ladder fall backwards, although I don’t think I’ve had a naked dream and ladder dream together. I don’t think I’ve had either dream since CPAP. I also used to have the underwater dreams where you discover you can breathe under water and understand that is common with apnea. I wonder if the naked and ladder dreams are somehow connected to apnea as well? Anyone? Robert — "If God had intended for us to see the sunrise, He would have scheduled it later in the day." I just had one of the worst sleep apnea nightmares of my life…I can only imagine this may happen to you sometimes. It happened most likely because of my sore throat which is actually getting better but my throat is swollen very much. I wasn’t wearing my machine because of this and I accidentally rolled over on my back. What happened is that I was having an apnea attack and couldn’t stop myself from choking. I dreamed that I was in someone’s studio and prop and housewares warehouse. I was naked on a very hi ladder. It was shaky and i was afraid I might fall. I was looking for something very far away and couldn’t find it because the lights were low. I climbed down he ladder and went over to the wind chimes section, They made beautiful chiming sounds until the owners girlfriend showed me one that made a silent slapping sound. Then I noticed a lot of cute toys and crawled into bed with the warehouses owner who sang me a song about the little red riding hood finger puppets his girlfriend made by hand. There were about 5 different wolves all in mint green dressed as red riding hood but in different colored riding hoods on. I couldn’t control my hands as i struggled to get them off of my fingers and couldn’t stop his singing this annoying daemonic chant. And then I noticed this grinding sound coming from my throat getting louder and louder. I couldn’t stop it and I was choking and becoming paralyzed. I got out of bed and walked through my parents old house to the kitchen still naked, then searched through a cabinet for salt which I was going to make a gargle with to ease my throat. I didn’t find any so i went to their bedroom, and knocked on their bedroom door in front of which sat the family dog, "Killer" who is not alive anymore. I gently knocked on the door trying to get their attention. I was relieved to find the light on through the crack of the door even though it was incredibly late. I started calling for help though only a grinding sound would come out of my mouth. Then i knocked and my mom in flowing negligee opened it and fled as she saw the state I was in. I walked towards my dad in bed screaming "Help I’m choking, help me, I can’t breathe! but only screeches came out of my mouth. My dad calmly took out a small tube and squeezed a tiny bit of powder blue cream from it onto his fingers. It smelled like menthol mint. He pulled me to the bed and rubbed some below my lips, then forced his finger down my throat, massaging my swollen uvula, causing me to gag. But this relaxed my throat enough to get oxygen. And then I finally woke up, throat raw and swollen and on my back. I’m afraid to go back to sleep but it is 5am. barry
