Does Anyone Suffer From Sleep Paralysis?

Question:

I also suffer from sleep paralysis and am looking for anyone who have been officially diagnosed with SP in the sleep lab.  Please email me and tell me how you were diagnosed.  I also have sleep apnea and have been in sleep labs over 10 times in the last 10 years but have never had an episode of SP in the lab. I never know when it is going to happen. Tracy

Hello,  I am a 32 yr old male who has had simular things happen in my sleep, however, I do not remember the dreams. They are closed off to my memory as soon as I wake up. I would like to know more about your step-father and what happened. I only ask because I beleive I was molested by my father and I have had over the last 25 years, reaccurring dreams about it. It scares the Hebbie Gebbies out of me. I need help to understand this and to deal with it as well. My older sister says she too, was molested by him but not in the way I was. Hugs, Joseph R.

I also have sleep paralysis but only about once a month. However, one time is enough to remember for a lifetime. That great roaring and the feeling as if you are falling into something….    I use to suffer from Sleep Paralysis ( didn’t know what it was back then). I would sometimes feel as if something was holding me down. I would then start to thrash around, kicking my legs and throwing my arms, and yelling to my husband to please WAKE ME UP! When I would finally wake up I would realize that in fact I had not moved at all because I’d be stiff as a board!!!! And as far as yelling, well my husband was still asleep so not a sound escaped my lips ( maybe a mumble).  One partically scary episode was when I layed down for a nap. I was just closing my eyes when my husband came and went to close the bedroom door. I tried to tell him not to close it but I couldn’t get the words out but I felt as if I was screaming them. The next thing I know my bed is enveloping me and I realize I am not fully awake. I started to yell WAKE ME UP over and over until I finally yelled it aloud and my son and husband  came to help me!!  I don’t remember when they first started (childhood?) they were not frequent occurences, maybe four times a year. I haven’t had one now since 1989 and I don’t know if is connected but that was when I was able to tell my family of my stepfather molesting me as a child. Anyways, I  just have manic-depression to contend with now( it is mainly under control with meds. So what am I doing up at 12:30AM?????           Time To Sleep PS .Please excuse my " handle". I have another I use ( more professional) but I just happened to be using this one when I found this group. Also my quote doesn’t seem appropriate(sp) here!       I was here looking for info on Night Terrors, and found a very informative and caring group.   Good Luck to All and to All a Good Night! Hi, I have suffered periodic bouts of sleep paralysis for almost as long as I can remember.  I had it dignosed a few years ago by a Neurologist I was seeing for headaches.  I would love to share any information about my experiences, especially since I have had the chance of discussing it with only a few people.  Most of them did not ‘get it’, and seemed uncomfortable with the descriptions of my hypnogogic hallucinations. So let me know how I can help. Thanks, Tom
