Yes it does!  If only we could do it in real life….

Have you ever stared at a common word, like "the" or "really" or even your own name for a couple of minutes, then all the sudden it makes NO sense to you?  The placement of the letters doesn’t make sense, and sometimes the letters themselves don’t make sense. What’s up with that? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> – Michaela

Hi Darkfalz, Try to check what your sleeping position is when you have these dreams. I think you will find that you will have bad dreams when you sleep on your back, especially with your hands on your chest. It is worse for people who are a bit over-weight. Try sleeping on your side. I have had a similar experience several times over the past year, except with me, usually I am aware of being in my bed rather than in some dream setting.  Still, there is the paralysis, which includes my lungs, and the extreme anxiety.  IIRC, I am still able to blink, but I can’t do anything else.  And then there are hallucinations.  I hear vague sounds and feel like something on the other side of the room’s about to attack me.  My symptoms seem to match up pretty much exactly with the disorder known as ‘awareness during sleep paralysis’.  Perhaps this is what you are experiencing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis#Awareness_during_sleep_p….

Yep, I found this yesterday on the Google. Certainly seems what I have. I don’t have any of the hallucinations or prescences though, but that’s probably because I don’t believe in spirits and so on. I do find myself thinking I’m dying and asking God not to let me die though.

I used to dream as though watching the dream on television – this would be around my child/teenage years I think.  Now I don’t watch TV, and I don’t dream like that. Had an interesting one the other night.  I was reading something – exactly like the pages were there in front of me and I was reading in the usual fashion, one word at a time.  Darned if I can remeber what it was about. Was a good read though! Monster — I am the sexiest man in the UuuuKaaaayy All the girls love me And I will never grow Ooollldd I am the sexiest man in the UuuKaaaay! http://www.the-monstruum.co.uk

Woah:) This is just facsionating to me, if hilarious too:) I am wondering about the impact on the human psyche video games have for that part then….Perhaps that more than what parents complained about, the speedy smart a mouth reflex of the new generation, could explain the change…"No die" in dreams would maybe be like a "no risk" subconscious interpretation, where an entire youth would live with a flase instinct of total impunity in that sense: "Can’t die" not being thought but registered as if an instinct, like wet dreams and all that… I wonder if any serious study was ever done on the subject, i.e. save and reload when dyign in dreams and its impact on the psyche and its manifestations in the personality affects of the various generations (now up to maybe the third generation already). Are you sure you haven’t got sleep apnea or something?  Your airway becomes obstructed by your tongue or you get spasms in your throat. There’s lots of websites about it.

Have your blood sugar tested, and your thyroid. And *get checked for apnea*. Happens way more often than we think, that, and can create such symptoms…. C —

I occasionally dream I die, but the funny thing is, I’ve played so many CRPGs throughout my life that I actually save and reload in those dreams.   Usually, I "save game," then do something I figure will get me hurt/killed, then "reload".  It’s like an experiment.

I’ve had several dreams where I die or something awful happens, and then I decide to just try again, just like a computer game. It makes sense in the dream.

When i start to suffocate in a dream I immediately wake up. If you’re having dreams were your paralyzed that just means that your being abducted by aliens, everyone knows that. They paralize you before they take you aboard their ship. Nothing to worry about they usually fix you up and return you with no harm done, that’s if you ever return.

Crossposting this to more relevant groups. I should also add that during this time I am STRUGGLING to breathe and move, and with a MAXIMUM effort I can usually wake up and get myself to breathe, but even once awake, I do actually FEEL exhausted and out of breath from the effort. So it can’t have just been "in my head"… this is the scariest thing about it, because it makes the sensation of paralysis/suffocationg extremely real.

I used to have them when I was younger along with dreams of falling. A couple of weeks ago I woke up to find myself holding my sheets to my mouth and I was in the middle of a spit as I woke. I don’t remember dreaming anything tho so that was kinda odd.
