I know i moved my arm because it was where it should of been when i could move again. Thats what prompted me to post here, that and the fact that the second expirence was actually really pleasant and calming. I’ll keep the eye thing in mind if it happens again, thanks. David

This sounds like a reasonably typical sleep paralysis experience.  If you also feel very sleepy throughout the day it could be an indication of a sleep disorder called narcolepsy and you should see a sleep specialist. I’ve heard that people can snap themselves out of sleep paralysis by rapidly moving the eyes back and forth, perhaps you could try that approach next time you experience something liek this. What you experienced were hallucinations, and they often accompany sleep paralysis.   Sleep paralysis is a normal part of sleep, usually occuring in the REM (dream stage) of sleep,  and the hallucinations seem to be related to this tho i’m not very sure on the details, one of those things i always mean to research further.  I suspect that when you moved your arm, you weren’t really moving it, but that it was part of the hallucination because as far as i know, during sleep paralysis the only thing you can generally move is your eyes. Please let us know how things go for you…… — Beth in Australia =================== FAQ for alt.support.sleep-disorder can be found here http://talhost.net/sleep this site is a work in progress – feel free to submit info/articles Remove my name to reply

I occasionally get sleep paralysis (harsh buzzy electrical sound/feeling threw my body and I can’t move or talk), know what it is and that if I just relax it goes away after a bit. But in the last two days it’s been much stranger than usual. Yesterday I woke up early and almost immediately started to dip into it, but my eyes were open. As it kicked in I noticed a person stood at the end of my bed, but they looked strange, then I realised that it was [looked like] a 5ft-ish grey alien. I was scared (even though it didn’t feel threatening, just confused and interested) and managed to move after a bit (first my hand, then I turned over). It wasn’t there anymore when I turned back. The whole experience lasted a few seconds, and with hindsight I just thought I was dreaming/going mad/tripping. Same thing happened to me today, I felt sleep paralysis coming on so I moved around a bit to see if I could stop it. Didn’t work. So I just tried to ride it out again. Had my eyes closed this time and I couldn’t open them. This is for me where it gets weird, I felt someone stood above me reach out and touch me. It wasn’t at all scary, it was more like the way girlfriends have tried to wake me up in the past, I felt really calm and happy, but annoyed because I couldn’t respond. I tried calling out but couldn’t speak, and felt myself being pulled a few inch’s off the bed (like someone was pulling me up to try and wake me). Suddenly I could move my hand a little and grabbed the hand, which just gently squeezed mine. I felt the person was going to leave but I didn’t want them to for some reason. They pulled there hand gently from mine and were gone. And I could move again. So, what’s going on? Am I being plagued by demons or aliens, going mad or just having a weird day or two? Are there any tell tale signs here to explain what happened? Never seen or felt anything before during sleep paralysis, so this is new to me, the only thing that is scary about it is the unknown aspect. David
